Well I'm thinking about getting a dachshund. I have two teenage daughters and they love the breed. I was wondering how their temperament is, because the books never say the bad perks of the dog. Any information about this breed would help me out a lot, and any advice would be appreciated too. Thanks!

I have read as much as I possibly can on this subject and really am just looking for a socially acceptable approach to the problems I am experiencing with my dog. She is 9 and half years old and I have had her since she was a puppy. She shows a few different types of aggression: Territorial, Dominance, and sometimes Predatory. The problem I am facing is whether or not to have her euthanized following an incident with her biting my two year old son. She has always displayed aggression toward children, particularly small children. I have been reading a lot since the incident and have decided that she feels that she has a "higher pack rating" than my son does. I love my dog very much and have spent a lot of time debating this with myself through tears. I will obviously choose my son over my dog, but would rather find a way to correct the behavior before being forced to make that choice. She is a liability and I know my neighbors would be happy to see her gone. I need opinions.

I have no vet(had Benfield pet insurance, but it got to be more than we could afford),my husband just got home from iraq,we are a military family so our funds are very limited. I have a 2-year-old English Bulldog and on thursday I noticed his head was shaking a lot. It did it again on Sat. and Mon. I don't think it's a seizure b/c he has stood up when it has happened. It lasts about a minute then stops and may or may not start again. It is definitely involuntary and he seems fine while it's happening. Has anyone seem this from a pet? I'm broke so I want some opinions before I take him to the Vet. and put him through tests. Thanks!

I have two dogs. One pitbull/small hound mutt and a pure Beagle. They are both extremely athletic and a little mischeivous. I would like to be able to set up an agility course in my back yard so they have a positive activity that will challenge them and burn off some of their never ending energy. But first I need to learn how to train them to do this.

P.S. I also have to train the Beagle to behave off leash.

My husband and I are looking for a Doberman breeder so we can purchase a red female Doberman of good tempermant and who's parents and itself have been health checked.I live in maryland although i am willing to look in MD, VA, DC, PA and NC. I love dobermans I have owned them before. I know a lot of about them and I understand everything that goes into owning one..I am basically just looking for a reference from someone who purchased a great doberman in my area or could point me to someone who is has a very good reputation of breeding good Dobermans. Serious answers only. Thank you!

I have always owned German Shepherds and I was wondering what other dog breeds have guard hairs that stand up on their back when they're guarding their homes, etc.

I have a six year old American Pitbull Terrier that I bought from a breeder with a good reputation, I even traveled 6 hours to Georgia to pick him up as a puppy.

I took him to obedience school, and researched every thing I could to train him well, I thought he was so sweet!

On Saturday I was walking him and he saw this kid and just freaked out, I have no clue why! The kid was just walking and never even looked at me or the dog. My pit totally flipped out and yanked the leash out of my hand, I never saw it coming, before I knew it he was all over the kid. It took me and another guy all we had to pull him off. The kid was in the hospital overnight and the cops called and said they are coming to get my dog. This morning they got a court order declaring my dog as vicious and he will be put down this afternoon. Should I go see him before they do that, they said I could say goodbye, but I am not even sure if I want to see that….

he constantly cries, for everything. I cant put him in the car as he cries, i cant put him out himself as he cries, he is a very excitable dog. I have taken him to the vets and they have confirmed that there is nothing wrong with him, hes just too excitable. Can anyone please help and tell me a way I can stop this, as time is taking its toll and its driving me mad!!!! Many Thanks in advance.

I am curious-- on these question boards I see so many people saying their dogs were vaccinated against kennel cough. Vets in this area do not vaccinate against kennel cough. I have only seen 1 dog with the disease ever come into the clinics, and it had come from a large kennel in another area.

I admit that I live in a Mayberryish type place, so big cities might have more of a crowding problem with dogs? Our vets here have always said if the dogs are cared for well and kept clean the disease won't attack them. Is kennel cough a major problem in some specific areas of the nation? It just isn't here. And none of them vaccinate for it unless someone specifically requests it.

At the end of the summer, I will be geting a show - quality puppy. I am starting a bank account to save up for it. How much money sould I put in? These are the factors that need to be considered right now:
cost of pup including shipping
Importation fees
Registration fees with the AKC, Canadian KC, KC, or Austrailian Kennel Council
Food and Water Bowls
Collar and Leash
Crate and dog bed
Ex - pen (playpen)
Grooming Tools
Toys
Dog Food
Grooming Table
What do these things cost? What else needs to be considered?

They all look so cute and scared in the cages. I'm thinking of buying one because the shelters don't have any small dogs. Am I still saving its life from a pet store? What happens if people don't buy them and where do they really come from?
