what kind of dog? how old? how big?
what kind of trap? how old was the trap?

My adult lab mix chewed up a plastic ant trap a few years ago. I got it away from him before he could swallow it. he was 80+ pounds and fine.

I have no clue about what could happen to your dog and this is why:

The problem may not be the poison in it, but if the dog ingested any bits of plastic or metal from the trap which could carve up her insides. Throwing up the plastic or metal or passing it could cause equal damage---or even a blockage which can be really bad. The age of the traps may make a difference too, and which chemicals they used in them.

Call your vet and ask. A faster route may be calling the ASPCA poison control hotline. The ASPCA will charge you $55, but they will answer all your questions and they do it quickly. Sometimes if you call a vet office you'll need to wait and then they have to find the answers. You'll need to be able to tell the ASPCA about your dog (size, weight, etc) and the ant traps, so be prepared.

Good luck.

Did she eat the whole thing? My dog did the same thing a week ago. If it just looks chewed up, crack it open and see if the poison looks eaten. If the poison HAS been eaten, or your dog completely swallowed the whole thing, I would call the vet. It will probably be fine, but it is important to double check. Depending on your dog's size, the poison could have little or no effects on the dog. It could be nothing. But call your vet, a veterinary hotline, or call the company of the ant trap and ask them about it. Hope this helps!

My dog ate part of an ant trap and we called our vet the vet siad that there is not enough bait in an ant trap to kill a dog, and that the bait itself is not chewed up all the way could cause stomach problems. But our dog was fine. We have a beagle.

Call your vet! Depending on the size of the dog and the trap they will tell you what to do. all insecticides and poisons that an animal in jest are bad for them ! It may be as simple as giving them a bowl of milk to stop the reaction but wouldn't it be better to be on the safe side? Some times it take up to 24 hours for any reaction, most poisons are time release. Be careful and just make the call it does not cost a things to talk to them! Good Luck I hope he is alright.

A lot depends on the type of insecticide in the trap, and the concentration versus the size of the dog. If you have any doubts, it's best to get in touch with your vet. You might also check with Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) to get information about the specific product, and its effects on animals.

Good luck!

It depends on what kind of poison was in the ant trap - plus whether she ate part of the plastic trap itself.

Take her to a vet just to be sure. The poisons can be pretty toxic - and the plastic parts can puncture stomach or intestine.

Get her to a vet.

My chihuahua ate a roach trap from under our stove and he wasn't even sick to his stomach. I called poison control and they said those things aren't even harmful to human infants.

They were mad because I called poison control about my DOG, but very helpful.

I wouldn't make it a weekly treat or anything, but your dog will be fine. Totally and completely fine..

Even as you sit at the computer, posious toxins are making their way through your dog's body and CAN cause liver and kidney damage!!!! Your dog may look and act fine but while you type away your dog may be dying...
Do NOT just call for an appointment and wait a few days... GET YOUR BUTT UP AND GET TO A VET>>>>NOW!!!!!!!!!!
