You should smell his ears. If they have a bad odor they may be sore deep in the ear canal. He should be examined by the vet and have a deep ear clean done. Perhaps the vet can prescribe some Otomax or some Malaseb Flush to cfleanse the inner ear and then after they have healed completely you can buy grain alcohol at the liquor store and mix it half and half with vinegar. Massage drops in the ear canal weekly to prevent future infections. The grain alcohol evaporates and disinfects while the vinegar cleans. But don't let this go untreated because the head shaking or scratching could lead to a hematoma which is broken blood vessels in the outer ear that a vet will have to sedate and drain. Do not put the grain alcohol /vinegar into sore or raw, infected ears. This will burn.

it's weird that you are asking about that cause i was just on an english bulldog rescue site. i've been wanting a bulldog forever so i was looking at some health problems that they may have. this is from the website:
Head Shakes:
Some bulldogs will experience a bit of hypoglycemia sometimes between meals. A bit of ice cream, cookies or just about anything sweet will help to control it. Repeated and persistent head tremors are a different issue which need to be addressed by your vet.
.... i dont think giving the dog cookies or any food like that is a good idea. if you go to your pet store i think that have something for hyperglycemia tho. it is in a toothpaste kind of tube and all you do is put some on your finger and give it to the pup.
i hope i helped!

Actually a lot of dogs will stand up when the aura of onset of a seizure begins. If seizures become more frequent without any medication, they continue to increase in severity. A trip to the vet is in order.

This could be a neurological problem (even a seizure can look this insignificant). Try the Humane Society for low cost clinics. Sometimes they will base payment on income. I would have him seen by a vet.

I have a english bulldog also. Mine has pnemonia. They tend to have breathing problems. But a shaking head? I think maybe your bulldog got a infection in their ear and they are shaking it because it is hurting her. My dog gags because she has a infection in her system. Your dog probably has a infection in the ear. Talk to your vet and see what is happening and email me. i would LOVE to know what happens. I love English bulldogs. they are sweet hearts.

Possibly ear mites or infection. Ear mites are brown in colour(no you won't see them moving) You can get medication from a pet store for this. If its red then you need to go to the vets for diagnisis & treatment.

It might be a seizure- a small one. You could check him for diabetes, or a number of other conditions. Or rather, the vet could.
Good luck!

Could be an ear infection. Look into both ears and if it looks brownish in color, guess what? Vet time.
