What's the meanest dog you've ever encountered, and what did it do to you? Did it bite you? Or snarl? Or growl, or what? And what kind of breed was it? Or did it look like?
For me, I think it's probably chihuahua, just about every chihuahua I've met has either snapped at me, or bit me playfully, and it hurt. Or this lab that every time I walk past this fence is just sitting there in the yard and sticks its head out the fence and barks at us. I'm sure if we got close to it, it would bite.
Or there was a dog that bit me once, I don't know exactly what it was. I was kinda young, but it got loose of its owner, and it circled around me and lunged in and bit my leg, and jumped back out, and started to circle around me again, but its owner grabbed it by that point. It didn't really hurt, just kinda scary. I think it might've been a collie.

Umm, actually, good dogs love me. Y'know, the ones that aren't mean.

I would almost agree, but some people do the best they can to train a dog, and it's still bad. They might be a bad owner, but some dogs just have something wrong with them inside them.

Old lady... try pulling that on a stray aggressive Pitbull... it'll take that as a challenge to rip your face off.

I went up the a friends house and knocked on the door, no one was home. I turned to get back in my car, and this huge pitt bull/german Shepard mix, had me cornered on the porch, growling and was ready to attack. My husband was in the car and he got out and yelled and it ran to him to attack him, I ran to get in the car and it turned to run to me, but I got back in the car safely. I cursed that dog, once I was in the car.
I was shaking so bad.

My aunt's Jack Russel Terrier... That dog is pretty damn mean. He bit me once when I walked into the house... Jumped up on my leg and bit me! He was never properly socialized and he is allowed to get away with a lot. He pretty much thinks he runs the house. My aunt muzzles him now when people come over, sad.
I hate how so many people think that pit bulls are mean, agressive dogs. Yes, some bad owners train them to be vicious but that is the owner's fault, not the breed. I rescued a pit bull mix from a shelter and she is the sweetest dog I know. The only thing she'll do is give you so many kisses it will seem like she's trying to bathe you. Same goes for every single pit bull I've met. Pit love <3

It's the two rottweilers that live around the corner from me and are kept in the front yard, and every time I walk past with my puppy (that's twice a day) they charge to the fence and jump up snarling and barking as though they would like to kill us. Each weighs probably about 50kg, and they are NEVER walked. A friend who lives nearby says that they've been kept there since they were puppies and are never taken out anywhere.
So, I suppose it's actually not the dogs that are mean, it's the owner.

i am yet to encounter a nice blue healer. yes, they do a fabulous job protecting their family and property (land, houses, beds of trucks) but they are some fiesty mean dogs, and i am by no means afraid of dogs. however, i don't dig blue healers. oh, and presa canarios are usually pretty high-strung dogs. the san francisco mauling is a good point to add to that. i'm not saying all dogs of these 2 breeds are mean, but the healers i've encountered are rough and i've come across presas twice and both times i really wished they were labs! highly unlikely that the lab you walk by will bite you. i have 2 labs and they have a mean bark and they bark at anything that walks by the fence but they are the biggest sissies in the world. this is the exact reason i love labs. they are a bigger dog, intimidating (your story is a perfect example) but at the end of the day, they are one of the more gentle breeds out there. perfect for a single woman or family with small children!

I've seen some mutts that growl and try to sneak up on you to bite, I've seen labs bite, I've seen spaniels bite - so I guess it really doesn't matter what kind of dog it is - if it's agressive, don't approach. If it approaches you, startle the dog with your meanest growl, bark and be sure to show your teeth. I know, people will think you are nuts, but that is better than getting bit by a strange dog. This works - really works! I think the dog is so startled that it doesn't know what to do. Been doing this for years and oh so many have run away from me. Also, don't ever run away - they take that to be a signal to run after you and attack from the back. When my daughter was little, we were at the beach and a big dog come over the dune, and she wanted to run. Dog was ready to do same, but I grabbed her, put her behind me, and growled and snapped at the dog. He left immediately and we were safe to continue our walk.

The absolute meanest dog I ever met was a Golden Retriever. I was interning at a vet clinic, and this Golden just attacked me. He left scars all over my face. It is kind of weird that a golden bit me though, because now I have a pit bull, and everyone says to me "Why would you get a pit bull? They are mean. Why not just get a golden retriever, they are always even tempered..."
Other than that I have met a few mean beagles, chihuahuas, and dachshunds. We have some rotts and shepherds that come in and are fearful, but not aggressive. But I am cautious around them because they are so fearful. But we have one Husky that comes into the clinic now, his name is Cujo. He has to be muzzled before he walks into the clinic.
I do agree that it is the owner who determines whether or not a dog will become aggressive.
Hey Hellen..Our dog's match! :)
I like blue heelers. I have never met a mean blue heeler.

I've gotten bitten only by small dogs, Pomeranians more often than not. Big dogs like Rottweilers and Pittbulls I've never had a problem with. Maybe those small dogs feel like they have to make up for their small size with big attitude.
All of those small dogs would growl, hackle and bite everyone except their owners.
Oh, and my in-laws have a yard full of blue heelers. Not a nice one in the bunch.

I'd say small dogs. Mini schnuazers, Westies, SCOTTIES FOR SURE, alot of terriers, Chihuahuas are also mean and I had a golden try to take my hand off (and everyone around me). Chihuahuas are attatched to their owners and are one owner dogs. So they could careless for other people, thats why they bite. Talk about Pitbulls having a bad name?!?!? I've never seen a mean nasty pitbull in my life. Sweethearts!
And most dogs are NOT born with mean tendencys they are brought up that way... not socialized for instance... some dogs have it in there genes (aka poorly bred back yard breeder dogs).

I think it was a pitbull mix. It was a vry large dog and it immediately lunged at me and tried to rip my guts out, I had allot of winter clothing on and writing pads in my pockets that covered my whole belly, so my coat got ripped to shreds before the owner got the gog off me and the dog had me pinned against her wall. Yes, the hard part is it scares the crap out of me. I will add this dog had wen right through her picture twice after someone. The dog was put away before I got there, but her son got old and tall enough to let the thng out while I was in her house.
