No there's no guarantee that they will guard. While they probably will ALARM bark.
Now the average pro burglar will avoid the houses with pets all together because its just easier to go to the houses without any dogs. But I'm willing to bet that several break ins in the same hood are being done by someone FROM the neighborhood. Probably or possibly by a teen or 20 -something with a drug problem. The urge and need drives them to lose common decency and they are desperate.
So I wish I had more clarification for you, but you'll just never know. Do yourself a favor and invest in a good security system with pet parameters (so the dogs themselves dont set them off) be real obvious about the security system with signs and stickers. BE DILIGENT ABOUT ARMING THE SYSTEM! Its a pain but you'll be safer. You can hire a reputable dog trainer to see if and how the dogs respond to intruders. I have seen Labs that are too sweet to bite themselves and some that regularly channel their inner pitbull so there's no real way of knowing. I hope you never have to find out for sure.

You're right about them...
Just like humans, dogs that aren't naturally aggressive aren't likely to attack, though they will certainly sense that something is wrong. Nothing about the situation will be familiar... you're not home, they are strange people, they came in the house in an unusual way, and the dogs will most certainly smell the stress hormones. They won't attack with kisses.
They won't go for the jugular, but my guess is that they would certainly let the person know they are not welcome, by standing in their way, barking madly and, if they're feeling brave, growling and showing their teeth. If the burglars hold their ground, your dogs probably would back off, but chances are it will never get that far.
Unless there is a specific items in your house that burglars are determined to get, a bark from the other side of the door is enough to deter intruders. They don't know whether or not your dogs are friendly, and probably don't care to find out. They'll just move on to the next house where no one is barking.

A well socialized dog that has met lots of people been in lots of situations generally can tell the difference between your brother coming to visit and someone breaking in thru the bedroom window.. They know what people normally do and how they normally act, how they enter the house.. If someone comes and does something out of the ordinary, they will either bark and alert, or they will hide behind the couch :)
Dogs are a deterrent, just being in your home. They can become a liability if you teach them to be aggressive, and try to get them to be more protective.
Good home owners insurance is a good idea.. And I personally crate my dogs when I go away. Yeah they would deter a burglar, but the thing is, there have been alot of stories in the news about the burglar breaking in and killing the dog, or putting the dog in the freezer, or whatever they need to, getting the dog out of the way. I would rather my dogs be safely crated and out of the way of some maniac, and let him have all my stuff, as long as he leaves my dogs alone.. Stuff can be replaced, my friends can't!

It is true that just the sight of two big dogs in the house can be enough to scare burglars away. You might want to put up a beware of dog sign. But I do think that dogs kind of have a sixth sense about people. Especially if people break in uninvited. My dog is the same way as yours, she loves EVERYONE! When people visit she welcomes them with kisses and a wagging tail. But at night, if the neighbors come home late, or their is a strange noise, she will give like a low warning bark... I'm sure your dogs would also let you know if something was going on outside your house.

If you are at home, the dogs will surely bark if anybody tries to come in.
If you are not at home, maybe they won't do anything. This depends on the dog. Most any dog will defend its owner against attack (and dogs are experts at body language; they know when somebody wants to attack you). But not all will defend their "territory" in the absence of the owner.
Most burglars won't want to deal with a big dog, because they don't know whether the dog will bite and because dogs bark.
There are exceptions of course. But just having two big dogs on the premises is usually a pretty good deterrent to burglary.

The burgulars will worry just because they are big.
As for the instinct mattery you never know with dogs, especially labs, if they will determine whether a person is up to no good. Just trust in your dogs that they will, when the time comes, follow their instincts. And keep your door locked.
Good luck!

When dogs are startled they will bark and with Labs especially they can get a rather deep brooding bark. If they sense that the people don't belong they will stop them...it may be by jumping on them and drowning them with dog goobers like my Lab used to do but they will know when something is not right.

hire a pit bull? i do no longer think of you will detect a APBT in the want-classified ads. And as in the previous reported, they do no longer make stable safeguard canines. Nor do Mastiffs. They make look menacing and propose, yet they are oftentimes only gentle teddy bears. once you're searching for a safeguard, watch canines (do no longer snicker) get something small. Jack Russels, Yorkies, Min Pins--the two certainly one of those make large watch canines simply by fact they are extreme-power, alert canines. i've got owned those breeds and Pitbulls. My jack russel might pay attention a noise exterior hours until now my Pit might. And he'd bark, subsequently alerting us to the noise. and actually a barking canines is all you like. If the canines barks, then you definately will see of what is going on. No canines might desire to be a 'experienced killer.' except you randomly have a German Shepherd that replaced into experienced in police paintings or something loopy, you probable won't detect a canines which you're searching for.

I would say that just the fact that you have 2 dogs will be enough of a deterrent to these thieves? Most burglers are looking for quiet and easy entry, not barking or possible bite marks. Even if their barking is in a "how you doing" sort of tone it will most likely be enough to send them on their way?

i think that since they are such big dogs you should take advantage of that. post "beware of dog signs" on your property. many burglars will not bother with houses with dogs. there is also a chance that if a person were to break in they would know someone was intruding and they would charge no matter how sweet they normally are.
