How many dogs are there in the world?

Not breeds, but what's an estimate number of how many dogs there are? I heard somewhere that there's 6 dogs to ever person there is in the world. Is that true? What's an estimate number? My friend was saying it's like... 100 million.

Wow, I never would've guessed that. I already knew there's alot of freakin' dogs. I was hoping someone would give a good approximate number, and maybe even a link to where they got their information.

I'm not looking for an exact number, just an estimated guess.

well i'll just say that in the U.S. alone there are about 60 million dogs. your friend's estimation was off by millions and millions. there are not 6 dogs to every person, otherwise the world would be ruled by dogs, because that would mean that there would be 36 billion dogs.

Since there has never been a census done on dogs I would say it would be impossible to get a correct count of how many dogs there are in the world. Possibly this could be a funded government project you could suggest. They spend millions of dollars each year on lots of trivial stuff. Ask for a grant and you may be able to find your answer if U R willing to put a lot of effort into the project. GOOD LUCK

no way to really know with all the BYB, Puppy mills individual breeder then the rep. breeders.
puppies and dogs die and are born every second in this world
So no way to tell..........
