Seems a bit cruel to me. I mean, it's understandable, since the dog was aggressive. But what ever happened to humanely euthanizing them? Doesn't the owner taking them out back and shooting them say something to you about the owner, not the dog, or the breed? I mean, if they're willing to do that with their dog, chances are they weren't training it right. :/

Yeah, unfortunately there really are people who don't want to pay the fee to have an animal put to sleep. It's not about the dogs behavior. Some claim that they don't see it coming and their brains switch off like a light, but for my animals I choose taking them to the vet and surrounding them with family before they go.

It is not understandable to me at all. However, I know of this, especially in the country. It is to them less hassle and a bullet is chealper than a vet appointment. These are people that don't neuter their dogs or cats and don't bother with any training. Neutering a dog helps prevent aggressive behavior. I can't stand the thought of this creulty, shooting a dog. They do this where they can get away with it. When I was a young child, my grandpa shot a dog several times right in front of me and then grabbed it by the hind legs and threw it in the back of his pick up and hauled it out to the diump. It was a neighbor's dog or a neighbor's relative's dog. It was very friendly and beautiful, it looked like a Weimariner. I was so upset I ran into the basement and stayed there for hours crying. I wish this memory would leave me, but it won't. This is very cruel to do this to a dog. Horribile! What they do in these laboratorys are extremely bad too. Anyone I see abusing an animal I report them and I interfere as well. Everyone should.

Um...I grew up in a small town and if a dog was hurt too bad, that's what you did. Sounds cruel, but they don't feel a shot to the head any more than a human would--instant death. I could NEVER do that to a pet, they're family! And in a place where there actually is a vet to be seen, euthanasia is expensive, more than $100. Some animal owners just aren't responsible, and they should be--I wonder how these a******s treat their children?
But here pain doesn't seem to be the case, but bad training.
If a dog is agressive its definately the owners fault, not the dog. Shoot the owner maybe?
Stark--they would run over the poor cat? That's horrible, I can't believe someone would do that :(

That definitely is animal cruelty to the highest degree, as far as I'm concerned. Vets will humanely euthanize a dog if aggression is there and it cannot be trained otherwise. Animals raised with love and affection will show it/give it back with no questions. But, if it gets no attention at all, or the owner is constantly hitting it for no reason, it's only out is to defend itself (thus, be aggressive). It also makes me think if the owner can shoot a dog with no sense of guilt, then he could very likely shoot a person just as easily. REPORT HIM TO THE COPS!!

I agree with you, it is inhumane, and the fact that an owner would do that says something about how they treated the dog before it got to that point.

I work at a vet clinic, and we had a cat named Monster come in who had really bad eye problems. The owners let this cats eyes get infected worse and worse for about 1 month before they brought it in. Once they brought it in they found out that they couldn't afford treatment since it got so bad. They decided to euthanize. Well, they decided that was too expensive also, so they said they were just going to take it home and run it over with their car...SOO My vet adopted the cat and treated its eyes, now *Jasmine* has a wonderful loving home. It is insane to me to think that there are people like this in the world...

Jordan,
I must agree with you, seems they weren't the best pet owners to begin with... in this day and age I would say it kind of makes them heartless. I mean, I would prefer a shot in the arm to a bullet in the head. If we were talking 50 years ago my answer would be different, but in todays world, the pound will do it for free. Sad, I know.

It is very inhumane and in most places actually illegal. If the dog is being trained and treated properly killing it for aggression shouldn't happen. Makes you wonder what they will do to their human kids if they misbehave.

So sad it is but unfortunately I 've known people that have done that. in the rural areas it's okay. Their dog (property) so that makes it okay.
I DO NOT AGREE there is a vet around here but our laws don't much include animals...... hope we can change soon!
