I know dachshunds are barkers, but our mini dachshund (1 year and a few months old) loves certain dogs and certain friends of ours. When she sees dogs that she does not know or people that she does not know, she absolutely freaks out and starts barking and yelping...it almost sounds like she is being attacked and hurt. Any dachshund owners experience this as well??? any advice? it is really embarassing and we need to get her to stop. thanks.

...choosing the CORRECT dog=breed= that people will be spending the next *15* years(w/any luck) caring for?

I always associated the word ONLY w/giggly 12-13yo girls. PLEASE don't tell me *they* are allowed the responsibility for such an important decision!

What is the best way to socialize a dog to small children? We have none in our family. My dog gets very nervous and barks meanly (really meanly) at the sight of small kids. I can't even get him to relax... I don't want to have to worry about him biting a child....

My black Labradors eye is swolen. I've taken it to the park and its had no contact with other dogs. Im thinking an infection or bee sting. Can anyone provide tips or methods of sterilising or bathing the wound. I cannot get the dog to the vet untill tomorrow morning.

Thanks in advance

We are most likely going to build a doghouse ourselves. How do we give it a few inches lift so no rain water goes in?

I am getting a dog and I want an exotic name. Foreign names, names I've probably never heard... anything. Just as long as I know what they mean. We are planning on getting a girl, so girl names please. We are getting a small dog, so I'm open to names like, "Tiny," and stuff flaunting her size.

My spouse and I have this on going arguement. I want a little lap dog for me and a playmate for our Gordon Setter (she gets along well with other dogs).

My spouse relented finally about my idea and said OK but doesn't want any part of it. He made it clear he will not have anything to do with the new dog when we are at home or when we take them on camping trips with us.

We have plenty of room for two dogs, a large fenced in yard and we are both home all day. So I would like to know if anyone could give me the pros and cons of getting another dog when you have no moral support from your Spouse? Is it a bad idea?

Has the American Staffordshire Terrier ever been in the dog shows on Animal Planet? I was just curious because I don't think I've ever seen one there.

Also, for my own knowledge .. what is the difference between a American Staffordshire Terrier and American Pitbull Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier? I can see a little difference in the looks, but which one is AKC recognized?

I love the breed and just wanted to know a little more about them because I plan on owning one sometime in the long future :]

Any other interesting cool info would be great!

Oh, what would you look for in a REPUTABLE American Staffordshire Terrier breeder? When I get one down the down (probably 5 years .. I wanna make sure I am really ready and own a house) how would I know if it was a true breeder?

Thanks again!

My spouse and I have this on going debate. I want a little lap dog (not sure what breed yet) for me and a playmate for our Gordon Setter (she gets along well withother dogs).

My spouse relented finally about my idea and said OK but doesn't want any part of it. In other words he will not have anything to do with the new dog when we are at home or when we take them on vacation with us.

Has anyone tried vacationing with two dogs? We always go camping when we vacation. Of course I will get no help from him with the second dog. We are both seniors but in good shape. I'm wondering if it is a bad idea to get a second dog when your spouse doesn't like the Idea. I will have no moral support from him when things get chaotic which to bound to happen from time to time.

We have plenty of room for two dogs, a large fenced in yard and we are both home all day. So I would like to know if anyone could give me the pros and cons of getting another dog when you have no moral from your Spouse?
