Cancer is a possibility, but it can also be some sort of allergic reaction to food or medicine maybe. Or maybe he got bit by some bug. My dog had one, though it went away. Vet said it's nothing serious.

I'm sure that it must be quite frightening for you. The lump can be different things though the vet will most likely palpate the area and feel if it is solid or whatnot. I would say that getting a second and third opinion is crucial. We made the mistake of not getting a second and third opinion until after my cat's second surgical operation (we really trusted the vet who had several years experience) for the lump that she had and it turned out that even though they thought that they had gone past the margins where the cancer was, that it had come back and spread. I don't want to give you a grim outlook but wanted to impress on to go to other doctors for their opinion and a more definitive percentage of outcome than '50/50' as the first vet had.

My cat unfortunately may have had a genetic predisposition to getting a cancer that felines/cats can get due to overvaccinations or getting a vaccination in a certain place. With your situation, how about just crossing that bridge when you come to it. Perhaps it's a cyst or infection. *Hugs*

This bump could be cancer, or a tumor, or just lumps of fat. My dog has lumps all over her and we took her to the doctors but they just said they were little lumps of excess fat. Don't sweat it and play it cool!

It may be a tooth abscess. It could just be a fatty growth. Dont worry to much until you know it is something to worry about OK.

It might be a gland. When a gland is swollen it might me they are sick or the body is fighting an infection. It could just be benign also.
