Dogs - March 2007

I've had a Chihuahua for a week now. I took her to the Vet to have her checked out and she has Adult Heartworm. I cannot afford the $500 treatment. I'm so upset! Is there any other alternative way to get rid of the heartworm? Someone mentioned a drop you can give them orally that you buy from a feed store?? Please any advice!! I dont want her to die!

They bite kids, mess the pavements, dogs not on leads cause road accidents, and a load of the people who own them are just plain irresponsible!

Should we have a dog licence and prosecute people who dont get a licence with heavy fines?

I just get the impression that dogs are magnets for irresponsible owners.

I will be getting my puppy in about 2 more weeks. I am not sure what to name him. I know that I should wait till I get him so that I can see what he acts like to get a better name, but I still need some ideas. I want something original/unique. Not a normal or common name like max, spot, fido, or anything like that. Here is a link to his picture!

banglore india, has a population of 70 thousand street dogs. street dogs is a reality of developing country like india. authorities of this city are carrying out massacre of street dogs .mid day times says theyre giving the dogs magnesium sulphate shots,which almosts bursts the dogs heart,since it costs much cheaper(rs.12/shot) ,whereas putting the dog to sleep wud cost rs.60/shot( 60 rs is more than a dolar) . armed with sticks and other weapons dogs are being massacared. I rescued a german shepard doberman cross pup *7 months when I got him* from a guy who was trying to make him into a mean junk yard guard dog..he was starving and beatting the poor pup...in the 5 months I have had him he has grown up physically and is the most loving and sweetest dog you could ask for..but is as timid as a baby rabbit. How can I help him get more confident and sure of himself so he is not constantly cowering from people?

He is just 2 months old and when i get him to sleeo at 9, i then put him in his cage , but he only sleeps a few hours and them wakes me up. If i don;t get him out of his cage he cries. And i can't get out of my bed every night and go sleep on the sofa.

My sister in law got her for free and wants to sell her to me, but has no idea how much to charge and I don't know how much to offer. She said she is pretty sure the dog has had all her shots and that she's relatively young (we think she's still a puppy but she's slightly bigger then the dog in the picture...neither of us have experience with poodles so I'm not sure).

So how much do they go for usually? I've also heard that they can develop alot of medical conditions over the years? Is that true?

So far;
Why are you selling?
Health problems?
Behaviour problems?
How well does he travel?
What's the dog's routine; feed, walks, time left alone (if any)?
Does he get on with; other dogs, other animals, strangers, children.

Any obvious things left out?

Hiya,
My neighbours have been complaining that our dogs are barking when we go out. We shut all the doors on their side of the house, but today we forgot, the dogs barked, and now the neighbours are going to comlain to the council.

Two things that are bothering me:

All the other dogs on the street bark all day, but they never complaing about them

They run a taxi firm, they fly down the road at all hours, and slam car doors, which is what causes the dogs to bark!

What can i do?

They are well looked after and are not aggressive at all!

Will the dogs get taken off me?

My two female dogs share everything toys, food, sleeping space, water, and attention without any problems.

They play fight but never for real unless:

A cat, dog, or person walks by or comes over that they don't know. For the first few secs they both bark then they start fighting each other and ignoring who or whatever they were barking at. I think they are fighting over who is the boss of the yard. This has been going on for a year now. I love them and will keep them forever but with this behavior they are worthless as guard dogs. For those that have more than one dog. How long does it take for one dog to submit? Will they ever work as a team? They never hurt each other so I don't stop them from fighting they stop on there on when whatever they were barking at is gone.
