This is true? I was in Bangalore last summer and was told, "the night belongs to the dogs". I saw them everywhere, pathetic beasts, it was dismaying. My partner, a native of Kerala, shooed them away from me constantly although I would never have touched one. But he knew my love of dogs.

Many of these dogs should be put to sleep, but a humane way would be best. They are beating them? Contact PETA.

I read that a pack took down a child. This does not surprise me. These are wild animals. However nothing justifies beating. A bullet in the head would be more humane.

I just spoke to a friend who is from Calcutta and he says that when he was a child this was done and he had nightmares after seeing a dog beaten with a club. However, he also understands that these dog are considered vermin and need to be culled. But, with a bullet or a needle, not a club.

I tend to agree with him. Those animals lead miserable existences and are left to starve. If the people of India cared about them the problem would not have reached these proportions. In Bangalore I saw so many of these beasts but I also saw, the only place in India I did so might I add, dogs on leashes. FOUR of them, all overfed and purebred.

Sticks and clubs is just plain cruel.

Thing is dear, people are also worried about wars and starvation and brutality against their fellow man so it all has to be put in proportion. This news is all around the world now. If people turn their backs on the suffering in Darfur or Iraq, can you imagine they care about street dogs? Sad but true fact.

yes i am fully aware of this as is millions of other people are as well.there is no 1 answer to this worldwide problem and its a true fact in this world that not to many people care as these street dogs are considered not more than vermon and a danger to the same people that created the problem in the first place.asimple sterilisation could have prevented this along time ago but many could not afford the price so they just kept on breeding and it is now out of control.if you are serious about trying to help solve this problem then you could start a petition and get as many names as you possibly can with a letter saying why this is wrong and why.then get a letter or signature from a government official(make sure that you keep some copies)then send it off to the indian government and at least it will make them aware that some people do care.goodluck and i do wish a good outcome from this.
