my dog was doing the same thing and I talked to my vet about it...she said I'm doing everything right and suggested giving her snacks while I'm clipping and that seemed to do the trick. now when she sees the clippers she knows shes getting a treat and she's actually excited.
Hope that helps!!

No, your not hurting the dog, it sounds like you have a good understanding of the "quick", or the vein that runs in the dogs nail. Clipping the quick is the reason the dog would bleed, and I've heard this is painful for the dog. I work at a pethoteI I do baths and nail trims regularly, I have never clipped the quick yet, but I have some dogs that sit really well and some dogs that start whinning and screaming the second you grab their paw or get ready to clip. I think some dogs have had painful experiences in the past with nail trimmings and they associate it with pain and this is why they act as if your hurting them. I have also heard that some dogs do have sensitive paws, and this could also be a reson for the discomfort. But in my opinion it sounds like your doing it right. I think dogs enjoy nail trims about as much as human enjoy getting teeth drilled.

No, it doesn't hurt any more than you cutting your own nails. However, it can scare your dog - perhaps she was accidentally hurt at one time. Or perhaps she just doesn't like it - like a little boy in the barber chair will cry - because it's unfamiliar and scary.
So,work with Precious by gently taking her paws and bring the clipper up to each toe and just touch it to her toe - without clipping it. THen work your way up from nipping just a tiny bit off to a decent clip. Reassure her that this is a good thing. This will take time and she may never get to the point where she doesn't cry - but she can get better at this. Be patient.

Some dogs, and cats, just hate having their nails trimmed. It's harder to do on dogs with totally black nails. Sounds as though you are doing it properly. Do you have the dog nail cutters? If you should ever go too short and it bleeds, put a paste of flour and water on it. My vet told me that after she did it herself at the office. Or, if you can get ahold of some, keep some Silver Nitrate Sticks available to cauterize it. Not sure if you can buy these over the counter or not.

Usually no. It's just like cutting your own nails. It's basically dead cells. But if you cut too much off it may hit some part still growing and living. That will hurt and if the cut is really bad it may start an infection. To tell you the truth, many pet groomers use a dremel tool with a sanding drum attachment. It just grinds the claw to dull it nicely.

No it would bleed and that would mean that you hit a vein. My dog pees when we cut his nails, its usually anxiety over the cutting. Usually a treat afterward can be a reward for doing well while you cut the nails. We found it easier to take our dog who has black nails to a pet shop and he has stop crying and peeing because he knows what to expect and have not very much anxiety anymore over it. That might help with your dog. Hope this helps.

No, it doesn't hurt them unless you strike a vein and that can be fixed with stuff from the pet store. If your dog balks at being held you will need to be a strong pack leader. Act confident. Do not cut your dogs nails until she calms down. You must project a calm assertive energy. You demand she does it but you are calm about it. In control so to speak. By being calm and confident your dog will relax a bit and simply obey and love you fr it.
Best of luck

depending on the angle that the nail is cut and the try of nail trimmer that you use, the answer could be YES. if you use an improper angle it can put pressure on the toe and the nail bed. have a groomer and /or a vet show you proper tail trimming techniques. and buy a really good trimmer, cheap or old ones can use more pressure than actually cutting the nail causing pain.

As long as she isn't bleeding, you aren't going too far. There are a lot of dogs that are afriad of getting their nails cut and will cry adn scream just at the sight of the clippers. I give my dog a bone after I am done with each paw, as a treat, because he hates getting his nails clipped. It has calmed him down a bit.

It doesn't hurt the dog unless you cut it to short or hit the vien, you're better off going to a proffession or buy the nail cutter with a built in sensor. She's not gonna cry if your not doing it wrong.

have a groomer show you how to do it properly
you will see a line on the nail...don't cut past that..cause the dogs nail beds are up further than ours
