No, I wouldnt. You can buy dog nail clippers from any pet store. The reason I say no is because human nail clippers are flat and can crush and splinter the dogs nail which can be very painful for the pup. The dog clippers are shaped like a dogs nail just like our nail clippers are shaped like our nails. If you cannont get nail clippers for dogs use a file. Chihuahuas nails arent very big and wont take too long to do.

You could, it's not recommended though. You can go to any pet store and buy nail clippers for dogs (large breed and small breed). Also if this is the first time you have trimed a dogs nails look at them first. There should be a dark line going down the center of each nail, do not cut close to that. That is a vein and will cause a dog to bleed and be in pain (ever break a finger nail, it feels like that). Also remember to only take little pieces off at a time so that you don't split the nail.

I use them on young puppies where the nails are still pretty soft, by 7 months I have moved to using the plies type nail clippers. They do make small ones for small dogs.

Yes, you can trim a dog's nails with human clippers. My husband trims our teacup chihuahua's all the time and was clipping our rat terrier and border collie's as well. It won't hurt them, but they may whine, yelp or jerk around while you're trying to trim the nails, I just think it's where they don't wanna be still or get scared.

yeah sure you can. I have some kitten clippers which I use on tiny puppies like him. The human clippers aren't shaped properly to cut the dogs nails but you can get away with it for a little while. I posted a picture for you on the link below. You can find them at most pet stores. :)

Yes, but be carefull not to quick them. By this when you cut them make sure not to cut into the dark part of the nail. If you do, it will hurt the animal and make him bleed. You can buy an inexpencive pair of nail cutters at a pet store and it will have the correct angle needed for the dogs nails to be cut with comfort and there is less chance of quicking them.

I would not suggest this. Dogs nails are shaped differently and are much harder than human nails. I would suggest getting a pair of dog nail clippers (they make them for small dogs too) or taking him to your vet.

I found the easiest way to keep my dog's nails to be "not so sharp" is just to simply file them down with a really coarse nail file. (Like the ones the use in nail salons.) I always waited til my pup was tired and falling asleep so it was easier to do this task.

no dogs have veins in their nails if you cut too short then your Chihuahua could bleed to death. use dog clippers but remember not too short.
