This is probably going to sound crazy but can dogs tell what breeds other dogs are? My two year old male jack russel is the most loveable thing in the world, gets on great with other dogs, but hates spaniels. All kinds of spaniel, even spaniel cross breeds. He can spot one a mile off and is actively aggressive towards them. How does he know?? As far as I know he has never had a bad experience with one, so why??!

my 8 month old chihuahua is into her season which started last Feb 19. How long do we have to wait before it is 'safe' for her to mingle with my male dogs as i don't want her getting pregnant. btw, i can't have her spayed because i have an agreement with the breeder to eventually have my chi bred with the breeder's stud

I'm just really sick and tired of people whining on here saying they cannot afford to take their dog to the vet when the animal is sick. Like we are supposed to feel sorry for you for your stupidity. Refusing to give the dog up because "You Love The Dog" is ridiculous. Why can't ignorant people stop thinking about their own personal feelings and start thinking about the dogs life. A dog is not happy being sick and needs help. Give me a break for once. It makes me sick every time I get on here when someone starts complaining and whining that their dog has diahrrea, bloody stool, parvo, worms, and all they said is cry cry whine whine I can't afford to take my dog to the vet. Grow up!!!!!! I love my dog so much that even if he starts acting odd I call the vet right away. I'm not rich but take care of my best friend if he is sick. IF YOU DOG OR PET IS SICK. TAKE "YOUR" DOG TO THE VET OR GIVE THE DOG TO SOMEONE WHO IS WILLING TO TAKE CARE OF THE POOR THING FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!!!!!

I don't know what else to do. I've tried everything to get my dog house trained and he refuses to do anything. It's not even like he makes mistakes or haves accidents, he flat out refuses to give any warning or use any of the products we've bought for him. I had him litterbox trained within two days of him coming home (at 2 months old). Now he is breaking himself of the litterbox and I thought, great, hes ready to go outside. We bought peepee pads and sprays(he wont even give them a second glance). I take him outside so much we're barey ever inside and he refuses to go potty outside so I dont even have an opportunity to praise him. I'll take him out for 45minutes and then we come in and two seconds later he goes in the house. I'm running out of patients. He's gone outside before a while back and we would praise him like crazy. What do I do? He's only si months old but he should at least be inthe process of house training.

I'm not going to overexercise my puppy. I just want him to get a nice 20-30 min walk twice a day that right now is impossible to do with the frigid weather. I take him out to potty, and that is it right now. My vet somewhat discouraged it, but I need to really know if this is OK.

I know it is tapeworms. She is 5 months old and I called my vet and she is going in for a treatment at 5:15 today. My question is what must I do to my home. I already vacummed the house and sofas, washed all the sheets and covers (she is a cuddle bug) and mopped the floor. Is there any other steps I should take when I get home to protect my family and my dog from reinfestation? I do realize I may be overdoing this, but those little moving particles of rice grossed me out. Also, please tell me what the vet will give my puppy.

Hi can any one advise me? I have a 8yr old springer spaniel, who has to be taken out on a 20ft lead, she cannot be trusted off the lead as she runs away, for up to 7hrs at a time but does not come home we phone around to track her down and pick her up. I have tried the treats and rewards to no avail? Has any one got any suggestions for me. It is so frustrating and a bit antisocial having a dog at the end of a 20ft lead. But what is the answer?

How long does it take/how old until a puppy is house trained?

And how do you know they are finally trained?

My puppy is only 12 weeks but he goes each time I take him outside and hasn't had an accident but he had one yesterday in my bathroom! I thought he mite be getting the hang of not going in the house but I guess not.

My husband and I are about to purchase one of these hybrid puppies--a cross between a bichon frise mother and a shih tzu father. Has anyone owned one of these little dogs, and if so, can they give me any advice about them? I want the "real" truth...

I got a new puppy recently, the problem is my kitten hates him. She actually swatted at him, getting him in the eye, causing him to have secondary laucoma (punctured the eyeball, causing all the fluid to go behind his eye) he should be fine, is on tons of meds, and will probably have cataracts later in life (thankfully no surgery needed, but man the cost of emergancy pet care is outragous)
Now my question is, how can I introduce them, and without having to have them seperated all the time? I love them both, I do not want to get rid of either of them, and I dont feel declawing a cat is humane. Help?

Tonight while walking back to my house, just about EVERY dog barked. Is there a reason? This has never happened. Even the little tiny dog which never ever barks, did bark! :(

Can someone offer an explanation?

Mmm, I really love that dog we purchased so much honey (hubby nods accordingly like a trained chimp) but I did not like it's nose and the teeth were just so un-hollywood so I had the nose chopped off and the mutts teeth enhanced to look like a Hollywood horse.
Not a thing done in the UK of course (It's illegal) but recently seeing a documentary about it were it's performed (and it would be only) in America that they do this I rack my brains at the reason why, why indeed? is it more money than sense here? Some U.S vets even having the audacity to point out "health benefits". Clipping the ears of floppy eared dogs because they are prone to inflammation due to build up of moisture???? Docking a dogs tail is highly practical too because (according to an american kennel) 'people can't grab the tail'. Debarked dogs sounding like 60 a day cigar smokers? Why do people do it??????

When does a dog start to realise not everyone is a friend and start barking at people that come over my dogs around 10 months I think, and doesn’t bark at anyone when they come to the door, WHEN will he start barking at people that come over?? he barks if people walk past sometimes but never when someone comes over by the way he’s a Rottweiler
