make sure he has lots of his own toys around. whenever you catch him chewing or about to chew the furniture, tell him NO! and give him one of his toys. when he starts chewing his own toy, praise him heavily. bitter apple and other sprays can work well also (even though i've heard some dogs actually like the taste and will lick them off haha). make sure you either crate him, or keep him with you while you are home. don't leave him unsupervised and give him the chance to chew. good luck!

This is a very oral stage for puppies, and chewing helps relieve sore gums.
Spanking is of absolutely no use, as by the time you do it, the puppy has forgotten what they were doing bad and they do not understand the punishment.
As mentioned before, make sure there are lots of things that puppies SHOULD be chewing on and redirect when they go for something they shouldn't. Also, if you are not able to watch the puppy, invest in an exercise pen so that you can put them in it where they will be safe and so will your furniture.
If the behavior continues, get a rolled up newspaper and hit yourself in the head with it, repeating "I was not watching the puppy, I was not watching the puppy".

Instead of trying to deter your puppy from chewing your furniture, give him something better to chew on.It will become a habit if you don't do something right now.Is it the cloth he likes or the wood?Buy him a pet bone with a tasty center that he can spend hours trying to reach.Get some soft furry toys too & sit down & play with him. Teach him how to play with his toys & he will learn to stay away from the furniture. If you catch him chewing the furniture, pick up his furry toy & get him to focus on that instead by playing with him.Its just a matter of teaching him what he should be chewing instead of what he shouldn't be.

Like everyone said good old Bitter Apple. Yuck tasting. The little guy is probably teething. When our terriers were teething we used Ora Gel on their sore gums. It deadens the pain so they didn't chew on the Chippendale Chairs.
A training method is a gentle leader harness. It fits around the puppy's neck and nose. whenever you catch the little guy chewing give the collar a slight tug, it mimics the action of a mother dog training her puppies by a slight pressure on the nose and neck.

Owner taught bite inhibition. Redirect the pup to chew on toys as soon as you see it chewing on something that is not allowed. Some people have had luck with Bitter Apple sprays also.

Have you tried Bitter Apple Spray or Bitter Yuck? They sell it at petstores, like Petsmart. You spray it on your furniture and dogs don't like the taste of it.
