my 8 month old chihuahua is into her season which started last Feb 19. How long do we have to wait before it is 'safe' for her to mingle with my male dogs as i don't want her getting pregnant. btw, i can't have her spayed because i have an agreement with the breeder to eventually have my chi bred with the breeder's stud

They are normally in heat for 3 weeks but it can sometimes last longer. My German Shepherd went into heat in the beginning of November and got pregnant around the 8th of December. Be careful and I think you should get out of that contract and spay your dog.

This sounds like a poor breeder! No reputable breeder would make you breed your dog. On the contrary, most reputable breeders encourage you to get your dog neutered or spayed!

Is there any way of changing that agreement, or is it a contract? If possible, the dog should really be spayed. And the simple solution to letting her mingle with your other dogs is getting your male dogs neutered. Whenever you spay and neuter your dogs, you're doing a responsible thing by choosing not to add to the huge dog overpopulation.

But to answer your question, I'll just say that most dog heat cycles last around a week. Is she still bleeding? If not, it's probably safe to let them mingle again.

I actual have Yorkies and that i see an analogous habit even although my male is a shown stud. Mating happens approximately 10 to twelve days after the start of estrus after the release turns wheat colored (not purple or pink). The adult males look to be attentive to whilst the timing is powerful. be careful to not depart them unattended on the grounds which you will choose to be attentive to the perfect breeding date(s) and the female can run and injure the male by potential of pulling him alongside. you will could desire to be there for the jiffy to calm her. My woman consists of on lots extra for the time of breeding them the somewhat transport. additionally, mating extra desirable than as quickly as an afternoon is ineffective so do not enable the male harass her all day, separate after mating for the the remainder of the day and permit somewhat tying to take place no extra desirable than as quickly as according to day.
