You can buy from the breeder but it will be expensive. You can get from the Rescue and it will be cheaper. It will be aroun $1000 - $1,500 for regular non-show dog. However, in the rescue, you don't know the past of the dog so if there's a problem with temperment then you need to be ready in dealing with it. About the doberman from the breeder, you can look on the breeders other dogs about the temperments and you can ask the problem of the breed and can give you more information about the doberman. Look it like this, getting a dog from a rescue is like buying a fish from General petstore on which most of the employees are like students or some have only few knowledge about the pet. But getting a dog from a breeder is like buying a fish from a fish and aquarium only store. Either way, you get what you want buy it will varies from prices and the future companionship of both of you. Others will say that don't get dogs from a breeder because there's a lot of dogs in the rescue but if you are looking for a show dog, only breeder can give you that. If your looking for just s pet and you are out of budget then you can just get from a rescue. Just weight the pros and cons. It's all about yourself on how you deal things and not others. Just and advice, if you are planning to get a dog from a breeder then please love the dog and keep it because we don't want to have a lot of dogs in the rescue. Hope this help.

Regardless of breed, all pups should remain with their littermates until they are 8 wks old.
Most females start weaning the pups themselves, typically around 4-5 wks and the breeder starts supplementing the feedings (because mom is spending less time with them).
They need the next 4-5 wks to learn to eat on their own and interact with their littermates learning doggie stuff.
I'm with dobiegang.....Dobermans are awesome! I'm owned by 5 of them!!!
If you're buying one, I certainly hope you've researched the breeder. Don't buy one just because it's what is available. Make sure they've done health testing and request documented proof. Just because the parents of the dogs that were bred might have been tested doesn't mean the dogs they bred are healthy .

All puppies should stay with their mother and littermates for at least 8 weeks. This is a vital time to be with them, since they learn a lot about dog communication from their littermates and mom. Taking the puppy away earlier than this age causes the puppy to act poorly with other dogs, so special care must be taken to socialize the pup to other dogs of all sizes and ages.

Most dobie books recommend the puppies stay with their littermates until at least 10 weeeks of age and preferably 12 weeks of age. These guys need more dogie socialization than other breeds as well as bite inhibition. I got my dobie gal at 10 weeks. If you can it's best to let the breeder keep them until then, also most good dobie breeders don't let them go until that age anyway. If you are in the US they may keep them longer (say 14 weeks or so) while their ears heal from being cropped. If your breeder does this and you don't want them cropped, be sure to put a deposit down and request that your pup NOT be cropped.

I have let puppies go to new homes as young as 6 & 7 weeks & it was a big mistake.I won't let them go until 8 weeks now. They miss out on alot of learning & socializing with their mother & litter mates if they go too early. This makes them aggressive with other dogs & nervous of their surroundings. If you mean take the mother away from the puppies so she can have a rest that depends on the size of the litter. If they are becoming a strain on her & she is losing weight I would take her out at night when they are 6 weeks.

Every puppy should be weaned at about 6 to 8 weeks of age. At 5 weeks I started soaking dry puppy food in water and once it was mushy I let the puppies eat it, so they would like the food once they were totally weaned off of mom

NOTE:
Taking a puppy away from it's mother is a completely different thing to splitting up the litter and sending the pups to their new homes.
Taking the pups away from their mother is a weaning issue, and I do it @ 35 days.
Splitting up the litter and sending the pups to their new homes is a socialization issue, and it should never be done before the 49th day but before the 70th day.
