I was planning on getting a small dog, because I really love small breed dogs. I live in a single type home with a medium yard. I am home most of the day and I work in the late evenings. I want a dog thats playful, not a lot of work to groom( brush and combing, a bath once a week), easy to exercise, maybe a walk twice a day or something like that. I don't want a real snappish dog, because I have relatives that have small children over my house. Also a breed that will get along well with my former terrier mix. Not a yappy breed either, just calm, happy-go-lucky type of breed!

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you!

I have a dog now bu tin a few years I will move out & I'm sure Elmo would be happier just staying with my dad. So I was just wondering what breed of dog you think would be right for me. I will have a house probably with three bedrooms, I guess I medium sized house. Atleast 5 acres , fenced yard if necessary. I will be a RN I will work 3-5 days per week. I will spend my time off with the dog. I could probably walk it twice a day if needed, once in the morning & once in teh evening. What dog would you reccomend? I like large dogs & dogs that are loyal, sweet, can be active but also like to sleep in my bed & cuddle sometimes. I'd rather to just have to brush its hair than have to get appointments at the groomers ex. Terriers. I just prefer large to medium sized dogs. I know I'm thinking a little ways into the future but I'm just brainstorming, and seeign what others think. Thanks in advance.

My pitt puppy is very finicky, and won't eat alot of the wet foods that we provide....gets a little expensive after awhile. She eats Beneful dry food, but their wet food is too expensive $1.60 per container, she likes only pedigree pouches and ceaser as alternatives and won't eat can food...Any ideas?

this morning my daughters British Bulldog pup was given uthanasia because she was led to believe by an emergency vet that the pup may have parvo.Up to this morning the pup had been lively, playful, alert, eating, drinking and showing no signs of illness other than diaoreah (not containing any blood) which i believe was due to a diet that was too rich for him. While he was having his food this morning he started barking at someone passing a window then he began to choke on the food and became very frightened, his jaws locked then breathing became laboured, in panick my daughter turned him upside down and shook him this did make cough out some of the food but then he started foaming from his mouth which was blood stained, his breathing was getting worse as they were on their way to emergency vet he became very cold and almost unconcious, the vet seemed to think it was parvo and said he had 50/50 chance of survival with treatment, she didnt want him to suffer more so had him put to sleep

I'm wondering when the tickets for Crufts 2008 will be up for sale! We're hoping to go on the Sunday which should also be the Hound day next year but the tickets sell out quickly so we want to be able to get then as soon as they are available.
Also, we would like to take our dog to be part of Discover Dogs: how do you go about doing that?
Thanks!

.....is it too late to fix it by dietary changes? (I.e. does it have to be manually expressed?) My vet told me awhile back that if I feed my dog some canned pumpkin mixed in with his food, the increased fiber will make his stool "bulkier" so it will kinda push the stuff out of the anal gland when he poops. But I don't know if that works after the gland is already full and he's "scooting". Any info would be appreciated.

BTW....sorry to be so gross :)

There are, & continues to be, extremely heated disagreements for both sides of this issue. For me personally,I am not thoroughly convinced, yet, as to their "pure" motives...but....I would be interested in others' opinions on the matter! To be fair, I would encourage both sides to openly air their views & beliefs...but please, base your response on personal experience, knowledge & facts, not emotion! This dialogue is important & all your views, regardless of your stance, will be appreciated.

I have just gotten a female boxer puppy at 8 weeks and plan on getting a male as well. The male, is currently 6 weeks, and I am wondering if this is an ok time to take the puppy home. I would like for the female and male to grow together, so one does not feel dominant over the other one. I feel it would be an easier transition to make them both adjust to the new surroundings together.

I know that puppies should normally stay with their mom until 8 weeks, but I'm wondering how important that is. Would it be ok to bring the puppy home now?
