Yes, the Presa Canario is a rare molosser breed. They are easily mistaken, as there are so few in America. I have had them mistaken for large pit bulls, even!
As for your vet, just because he may not know what a Presa is, doesn't mean he can't treat it. Just remember that he won't understand all of your dog's behavior if you have issues with that. You may want to research a few more vets in your area to find one that is more familiar with molossers, and maybe more comfortable with them. They certainly aren't a dog for everyone!
Good luck with your Presa! I hope that this helps!

Yes, I've heard of the Presa Canario,: it is not that well known here in the US, nor is it AKC recognized, but I do believe it is a UKC registered breed. It might be also be registered with the Rare Breed Dog registry...They are beautiful animals & must have a good Alpha owner to train & socialize them.unfortunately, there was an incident in San Francisco a few years ago where a young woman was attacked & killed by 2 Presas & the two owners (idiots who didn't give a rat's patootie about the victim or their dogs)) were brought up on murder charges & one was convicted!! The dogs, naturally were destroyed...they are sharp looking dogs though! tell your vet to change his records, by the way!! Good luck!

I had a look in my dog book and I could not find any dog with that name....My guess is it's an adapted name which was given by Italians or Spanish people...so if you know any of those people perhaps they could tell you. But there is a mastiff in my book with a yellow colour and weighs 115kg[253lb] and the minimum height should be 76cm[30in]. This dog has a majestic look and is loyal to it's master. And as a note...these dogs were used by the ancient romans....does that tell you anything. I hope I have given you some backing.

If you have papers show him the papers. Sometimes people buy dogs that the sellers say are one thing and when they visit the vet, the vet will put down the correct breed.
