How did your dog run away? Did he jump the fence, or bolt out the door, or break off his leash...? Just wondering...

Dogs 'run away' for a variety of reasons. He may have spotted a cat or a squirrel, or maybe he smelled something that was just too tempting to pass up. Dogs don't think to themselves, "gee, maybe I should stay close to home"; they're animals, and they act upon instinct.

If it's been six weeks since he took off, and you posted signs and an advertisement...my guess is that somebody took him in and has kept him, or something untoward has happened to him. I love my dogs and would be heartbroken if one of them ever ran off. I know it happens, and I'm sorry. I hope that somebody wonderful has taken him in and is at least giving him a good life.

Take care, and good luck!

If people took the time to research the breed of dog before just running out and getting them they would not have this problem. NOT all dogs are stay at home dogs. Miniature Pinshcers are sight dogs bred to hunt rats and mice and this instinct is still very strong in this breed. I am a former long time breeder and can tell you if you had read anything about Min Pins before going out and getting one you would have seen clearly "dog must be leashed when out at all times". If you have a yard it must be fenced securely. The Min Pin is the greatest escape artist of all breeds. Simply put the Pin is a dog that by nature will bolt every chance it gets since it's prey instincts are still so strong even after 200 years. I suggest that if you get a dog, read about it. Be sure you understand it and be prepared to deal with it. In all likelihood the dog has been claimed by someone else or may have been hit by a car. I will assume you have called the humane society or animal control in your area?.

This is why you watch him. You ALWAYS keep your dog on a leash and you NEVER leave your dog unattended in a backyard (even if its fenced). Especially a tiny dog like that that can easily fit through small places or dig out. Also watch the door and make sure no one carelessly lets the dog out. IF you cannot handle that then its best you dont have a dog. Is your dog microchipped or did it have a collar on with proper identification? If not, im sure someone picked it up and it is living with them now. Either that or something happend to it, seeing mini pins are very small and vunerable. Have you called all local shelters as well? put and ad in the paper? You may or may not get the dog back unfortunately. either way, learn from your mistake and be more careful next time,

I honestly dont think he will have run away, dogs are usually stay at home pets. I would think that he will have found a way to get out of your property and someone will have picked him up thinking he was lost and a cute puppy. Would it cost you a lot to place a small advert in your local paper. Good luck with finding him You must feel sad about it.
