The past week I've been walking my little 5 lb pomeranian Xena around the neighborhood... and the beach up the street. Today, one came up and growled. Its owners were about a block's length away.
I yelled "KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH"
A passing woman, also with an off-leash dog told me just to hold out my hand and "be nice" to the bigger dog.
"But it's a big dog and it growled at my dog"
"Well, just hold out your hand like this and scare it off"
The dog looked like it weighed almost as much as ME!

Just Now,I was taking Xena out to potty in our OWN BACKYARD - which has a fence around it. A large dog got in thru a crack and started growling at her. Definitely NOT friendly. I yelled to the neighbors I could hear talking up the street "HEY- THERE IS A LARGE BLACK DOG IN MY BACKYARD GROWLING, AND I HAVE A LITTLE 5 LB DOG AND IT IS SCARING ME". Their response? "It's just the neighbor's dog, runs the neighborhood"... and then someone called it.

Should I get some pepper mace?! What should I do?

my yorkie seems to get spots or small lumps on his body ,when he had the first one I took him to the vet and he was going to take biopsys and all sorts but I said no.After a course of antibiotics for a wee infec the spots went. Now he has a big spot on his head and one on his neck,i think its caused by getting pricked in bushes etc and get infected so what is best way to treat him ,I dont mind vet bills but i dont want the dog put through unnessesary pain just for a spot/lump,he is bathed every month and i do look after him ,its just vets seem to go over the top with what the cause is.Some people wouldn,t even notice them but I do check him often.

I adopted him two days ago and he still doesn't have a name.HELP!! If you know a website, then that would be better. He's not too small. He's brown with a cute white spot over front leg. He's always excited when I come home. If you can think of an Asian name, GREAT. Thanks for your help.

My 5th grade son is doing a project for school. He is going to be opening an Animal shelter. We are trying to find out the process that goes on from the time the animal is rescued to the time theyre adopted. More Specifically the medications or vaccinations. He is supposed to be figuring out upstart costs and we are working on what types of medications should be in stock/on hand.

I woke up this morning and I fliped the covers over to get up and ready for school, and I noticed on my Doberman, Hammer, a Large lump on his back. And it didnt bother him becuase he was still sleeping on my bed. But i touched it and could put my hand around it comfortably ( im 15, so my hand isnt that big, roughly the width side of the keyboard long) and put a little pressure on it, and it hurt him. He turned around and moved my hand with his nose. I called my mom and she came over and looked at it, and she didnt know what it was either. Well when i got hom from school I took a look at it and noticed it was a bit smaller and It looked like a long lump the size of a squished lemon, and on top, a smaller longish lump the size of a peanut. She told me she had iced it and it went down a little, but i dont know what it is? I think either a welt, bite, or My most WORST fear, a tumor. It wasent like that yesterday? I did make an appt tomorrow at 1, but im scared? what do u think it is? Also, If this helps, saterday, He knocked into the coffee table and my moms vase which weighes about 8-9 puonds fell right in the area where the lump is. but he didnt really yelp? and if it it was the vase, Why would the lump appear now? Also im going to give him a bath, and ice ithe lump, do you think that would help? also im going to try ebisons salt, would it work? Please help me. Its hard to breathe to even think its a tumor, im really scared. I love him so much, he sleeps eats and plays with me 24/7. And if it is a tumor, what would happen?

We want to know what breeds of dog comprise his mixed up DNA so we can understand both his temperament and health needs better. Are there DNA tests or is there a website that does searches based on characteristics of the dog and returns the most likely breeds? If there isn't a website like that, there should be.

My girlfriend payed 100 out of $425 for a mini poodle puppy but her 3 roommates refuse to take care of it or pay so the dog cant stay. We called the lady back on the same day and she agreeded to return the money for the dog the next day at a set time and place. She didn't show and called an hour and half later saying she had to take her son to the hospital but she would call us and we would meet her before 430 because there was a test my girlfriend had to take at 5. It is now on day 3 and the lady won't answer her phone or hangs up instantly. Does this sound like a scam or should we just wait for a call? If there is no call what actions should we do? Thanks for any help.

Well - he's technically not even our roommate. He's our roommate's boyfriend. We have 2 dogs - he has 1. His dog and 1 of our dogs don't get along - they could potentially really hurt eachother. So we keep them separate. His dog is lonely and whines when she's outside so they always bring her in, which means our dogs are always outside. We have to constantly check for where the dogs are before letting them in or out. Plus, his dog is only 9 months old and gets excited and has little accidents EVERYWHERE! My husband is constantly cleaning up little pee spots on the carpet. We only allowed her to stay because it was supposedly temporary - he was going to find a home for her. This was 2 months ago, and we found out yesterday through our other roommate that he's keeping her. I think if he wants her to stay - 1. We have to ask the landlord first and both of them have to be on the lease. 2. He needs to pay for professional dog training to help them get along. Help!
