I breed American Pit Bull Terriers, all down from game lines, and have a 3 (soon to be 4) year old niece and an 8 year old niece. The 8 year old often helps me feed the dogs. The 3 year old doesn't feed them but she does love to go around with us and play with them. I also have a friend and his 4 year old son staying here who helps out.
I have never, in my 15 years, had any one of my dogs show aggression to a child or anyone else. Nor have any of the dogs I have visited at other kennels (all APBTs).
People need to learn that while pit bulls are dog/animal aggressive they (if bred correctly) are not human aggressive. APBTs are the only breed to be bred to be specifically non human aggressive. Handlers had to be able to handle his dog in the pit without getting bitten, and no dog could bite either handler or the ref or it was an immediate loss and an immediate cull.

I have found APBTs to be a very trusting breed around children. However, no dog of any breed should ever be left alone with a child. Also, children should be taught how to treat dogs correctly.

Edited to add: I have been breeding APBTs for 15 years but have been around the breed for 30 years and never had an incident.

i've had pit bulls since i was 2. before all the erroneous press hype through my daughters infant years and now i'm waiting on grandchildren with one and never a problem, however if the dog no matter the breed, isn't accostomed to a baby, never leave the two unsupervised and until the dog is used to the baby the dog should be restrained

Pit bulls are not even a real breed. But i have 2 "pit bull" and they are the most loving dogs towards humans you will ever meet. The only aggression they may have is toward another dog, and that is only if they are trained and fit for the fighting. I will never ever bye another type of dog again.

The sites below have information about the name pit bull, and the history of the dogs themselves

I had a pitt for 3 years. I got pregnant and had my son and the dog was fine until my son was 10 months old. My son got up started walking .....the dog comes from across the other side of the house and clamped down on his neck, in the meantime knocking over me and my mom. I jumped up and slide my arms in the back of his mouth to release my baby. Pitts are no good around kids.i was lucky, no doubt.

Fair enough. What would you do if it did? Isn't it better to look after the baby than the dog?

would it matter if my dog was really nice and you say your s might be too. the bottom line is your dad pays more of the bills in his house than you do and he gets to make rules own his on property.
