What type of dogs do they eat in Vietnam?

I know they are a mostly small dogs, but do they have a preferred breed? Is any dog an acceptable meal?

I'm half Vietnamese and travel regularly to Vietnam. I know that dog is eaten by some Vietnamese because I had seen it myself.

There is a popular restaurant in Ha Noi famous for serving dog meat. It is a big restaurant that looks like it can seat at least 300 people and usually has a lot of business. I had not eaten there myself nor have I ever ate dog meat (that I know of). My uncle has eaten there frequently though.

It's not the type of dog, but the age of the dog that matters. An adolescent just before reaching adult age is preferred (a little less than a year old) because the body has developed but the meat is still very tender. Some prefer puppies between four to six weeks old cooked on a spit (which could be called "Puppy on a Stick").

Ironically, owning a dog in Vietnam is considered a symbol of higher status. Most of the pet dogs I've seen were toy size, which makes me think that size does matter in Vietnam. The smaller the dog, the less likely it will be cooked.

The Vietnamese are not the only ones who eat dog meat, however, we get branded for doing this more so than any other race or culture. Dog is eaten in just about every third world country because it is a very cheap source of meat and protein. By the way... Mexicans eat dog meat too.

Not all Vietnamese eat dog meat (that goes the same for Mexicans). Then again, what are you going to do if you have nothing else to eat but a rat or a dog?

Why the heck have you ever revealed this in the LBGT section? besides: have you ever considered the way "food canine" are treated in a number of those international places? My significant difficulty isn't a lot killing a canine, which we do through the thousands and thousands each and every twelve months in america of a through kill shelters and euthanasia, notwithstanding the way such canine are treated: they're filled 50 to a cage designed for a million, they have their the front legs tied in the back of their backs and used as a take care of to carry them. doggies will be thrown stay into pots of boiling water...same with cats and kittens. So, for me, the placement isn't "i'm eating a canine", it is "i'm eating a canine that suffered cruelly for no longer some thing previously it become slaughtered." If everybody eats an animal that become abused previously it died, they make a contribution to the abuse through paying the abuser for the beef: it would not matter if it become pork, pork, hen, horse or canine...abuse is abuse.

What? I'm Vietnamese and I never heard this trash, well I have ,but I thought people were kidding. I realy don't think they eat the small ones. I think it's the big dogs that the drunk men eat in Vietnam.

In the online pics, they mostly have a similar appearance. They look like a German Shepherd mix that is about Sheltie sized.
I don't recommend that you look, as the pics will forever haunt you.. I can't get the images out of my mind, and I really try..
