You may need to enrich his life some how. Spend more time with him. Give him a good brushing everyday. That will leave less hair to swallow. Play fetch or Frisbee. Give him a good walk every day. Is he by himself all day? Try a doggy day care. With a more stimulating life, he may not find time to lick every thing. OR....

Usually I am so happy to get them stopped from biting, I tolerate the licking. I guess it is more of the same, perhaps yell ''Yuck!'' and jerk your had away instead of ouch. Even walk away. It will take many, many times, and absolute consistency, react at the first lick.

We have a 15 year old mini who has been licking since we got her. We tried everything to get her to stop, but she enjoys it so much that I let her lick my leg for awhile each evening. My wife can't stand the licking, so has trained Chelsea to not lick her.

If you don't want your puppy to lick at all, just keep telling her no. Dachshunds are very, very smart and extremely hard-headed. It's a test of wills. It may take awhile, but they can be trained.

Heyy.. ok I'm not really a pro or anything..but I'm really into animals. Hehe this is going to sound crazy.. but do you watch that show "the dog whisperer"?? No, I'm not weird or anything, but we had a trainer and she gave us the 1st season while we were trying to train my dog. Well, you should look into it because there was an episode where this little dog was OBSESSIVE into licking, and he said it was a nervous thing so MAYBE this is your dog's problem?? He says you need to stop the licking by keeping giving your dog more secure by being more assertive with him .I hope I am a LITTLE helpful!!

You can try a firm no and moving her to her pet bed or crate for a 'doggie time-out'. Truth though is that some dogs are just lickers! My Maltese is a licker and no amount of scolding, removing, ignoring has cured her (she's 5 yrs old now). She licks her paws, the carpet, people, other dogs, squeaky toys, you name it! So good luck with that!

The safest method is to use this spray call "Bitter Apple". It non-toxic and it washes off with soap and water. You can put in on anything she licks (it DOESNT stain!!) and when she licks it gives off the NASTIEST taste. If u put it on your hand please remember to wash it off!! Because i forget one time an thats how i know how it tastes.
