I woke up this morning and I fliped the covers over to get up and ready for school, and I noticed on my Doberman, Hammer, a Large lump on his back. And it didnt bother him becuase he was still sleeping on my bed. But i touched it and could put my hand around it comfortably ( im 15, so my hand isnt that big, roughly the width side of the keyboard long) and put a little pressure on it, and it hurt him. He turned around and moved my hand with his nose. I called my mom and she came over and looked at it, and she didnt know what it was either. Well when i got hom from school I took a look at it and noticed it was a bit smaller and It looked like a long lump the size of a squished lemon, and on top, a smaller longish lump the size of a peanut. She told me she had iced it and it went down a little, but i dont know what it is? I think either a welt, bite, or My most WORST fear, a tumor. It wasent like that yesterday? I did make an appt tomorrow at 1, but im scared? what do u think it is? Also, If this helps, saterday, He knocked into the coffee table and my moms vase which weighes about 8-9 puonds fell right in the area where the lump is. but he didnt really yelp? and if it it was the vase, Why would the lump appear now? Also im going to give him a bath, and ice ithe lump, do you think that would help? also im going to try ebisons salt, would it work? Please help me. Its hard to breathe to even think its a tumor, im really scared. I love him so much, he sleeps eats and plays with me 24/7. And if it is a tumor, what would happen?

It sounds like Hammer's gonna be fine to me. The lump on his back could be from that vase and be a pooling of blood under the skin, sort of like a large blood blister. If icing it makes the swelling go down, then it's not a tumor. BUT, if it is somehow a tumor, it's still not a big deal. My dog is getting old and developed a tumor on her back about the size of a golf ball sliced in half. I took her to the vet and he told me tumors were normal in aging dogs and that I shouldn't worry unless it gets bigger. That was 4 years ago and the lump is still the same size, so she's fine. Don't worry, Hammer sounds like he'll be playing happily for a long time! You should still take him to the vet, to see if the vet needs to drain some fluid from the lump.

If it were a tumor it wouldn't get smaller. Is there any break in the skin? Sounds like an absess. I'd always take the pet to the vet if you have any concerns.

Good luck.

It could be a cist but I don't think so because I don't think it would hurt him..... but anyway if your dog got in a fight I know what it is... cause my dog got attacked and she got a lump on her neck so we took her to the vet and he said that it was caused from the attack and he had to drain the blood out of it... so you should take him in... good luck I hope you figure it out....

well its possible it could be a bite and its swollen and the ice did help so i don't think its a tumor but just to be sure call your local vet and tell them be sure to tell them every thing like it went down after ice just every thing!!
good luck to you and hammer!

You should call your vet about it. But my guess is that its part of his bone (unless it feels squishy) then you should definetly get it checked bc there are some diseasesthat it could be.

you should bring your doberman to a vet...............he could just have an infection, or he could have hit it on something
