My dog had started her first cycle. She is a year old. She got out and went to the male dog next door, she was gone about 15 minuets. She was into her second week of bleeding and since she got out she has stopped completely. Now, four days later, she has enlarged nipples and lumps under them. Her veins are more noticable in that area as well. Could she be pregnant?

My dobie is still a "baby" she is only 4 months old, and i was just wondering when dobermans get out of the puppy stage(nipping, chewing etc.) No matter how many toys she has(about 10) she loves chewin on us, our clothes, our table, our couch etc. And also, what would be a great toy to keep her busy or distracted while i clean the house or anything.

Thanks!
Amanda

I have never really taken my dogs to the vet before. But nothing has ever been wrong with them. How important is it that my dogs see a vet?

My wife and I would like to get a female Golden Retriever from a reputable breeder. Due to the fact that we both work all day, I'm a bit concerned that getting a 2-3 month old puppy would not be in the best interest of the puppy as we'd be gone most of the day during weekdays.

Also, my concern is that since the bladders of young puppies are so small, they would need to go out more than we could let them out. I also would rather not train the dog to eliminate inside the house. On the other hand, we see other puppy owners who work full time, but my concern is that they don't care for the puppy well.

Are my fears unrealistic or warranted? I want to make sure that the dog is not only a good fit for us, but that we're also a good fit for the dog.

If a puppy is not a good fit, how do we go about getting a dog that is 12-15 months old? This seems harder to do.

Please comment if you've had experience with what I am discussing and if you have insight into my dilemma. Thanks!

Very sad story in Portland. What can be done about this growing pit bull problem where we cant even take our dogs out for a walk anymore??

POSTED: 8:11 am PST February 18, 2007
UPDATED: 4:25 pm PST February 18, 2007

A Portland woman said a wayward pit bull is to blame for the death of her dog.

Ursula Fox’s Schit-Tzu, named Decaf, was killed Friday night on Northeast 47th Street. Fox said she was walking Decaf around 9 p.m. when several dogs came running up behind her with a man yelling at them.

“All of a sudden, I went to pick her up and these dogs got her right here on the ground,” said Fox.

Fox claimed a pit bull tackled Decaf to the ground and snapped her neck, killing the small dog instantly.

“He ran down and said, ‘Oh no’ and he tried to stop his dog and I started screaming and he says, 'Oh, I’m so sorry,' and that was it,” said Fox.

Fox called police, but said the pit bull’s owner was never cited and the dog was not taken away.

We're fostering a very sweet Boston Terrier and he has Separation Anxiety (it's day 2 and we just discovered it). When I left today, he stood at the door and barked and tried to chew his way through the window by the door. Luckily, I had to run back into the house to get something and discovered it! So, I put him in his kennel (I had to leave and was gone an hour) and it was obvious that he didn't stop barking or trying to get out of the kennel until I walked back in the front door. Does anyone know how I should handle this? I have to go to work this next week. I can't afford the damage to my home, and I'd hate for him to injure himself in that kennel trying to get out or to upset my neighbors (townhouse) with the barking. He's such a good boy besides that.

So my fiance and I can not decide on what we want to get. We are buying a house and plan to have children in the future. We have a decent yard that has a stockade fence. Currently have 1 young cat and no other animals. Our top three choices of what we want to get are a labrador or a mastiff or a doberman. All are great dogs with pro's and con's but we would like everyone else's advise. Please help!!!!

We have a 5 year old with allergies and we bought a Soft Haired Wheaten today and she still breaks out and gets itchy. The dog was kept at the store with another dog in it's cage, with many others around it.

How likely is it that if we get the dog throughly cleaned, she won't be allergic to the dog but the remains from being with the other dogs? Do they pass allegrens by just being around and playing with each other?

When my little dog gets excited she piddles! (urinates a little bit) I don't think she can help it, but it is quite annoying cleaning up after her every time we come home or someone greets her. She is seven years old and she has been doing this all of her life! Any suggestions on how to help this problem?

So, my puppy is 5 and a half months old. He's a pembroke welsh corgi and didn't really bark at all until about a month ago. We live in an apartment, and he does well, except for the random barking. He's quiet at night, and most of the time, except when he hears a random noise (like when someone is talking outside, airplanes, ambulances, car horns, walking upstairs, etc). Are there any ways we can stop him from barking at random things?

Oh yeah, we tried a shock collar for about 2 hours and decided it wasn't for us! So I guess we are lookign for ways that don't involve collars (shock or citronella or sound).

Thanks!

A breeder took a down payment from us, and the litter ended up being ONLY 2 puppies. Is this bad? A bad sign of health?

I know that usually it is good for puppies to interact with the mother and the other littermates to learn how to "be a dog".

I just want to make sure and check all my bases with my new puppy!

My friend has 2 dogs and she asked me if I thought she should get another. Then she described to me that her current dogs were replacements for 2 older dogs she had that died. She says her current dogs aren't like her previous ones and she isn't enjoying them. She wants to try to find another dog that will be like her first one. I think this is not right-you have to take them as they are. Do you agree or not and if you do,can you suggest a tactful way to tell her this?
