She has been to the Vet, thanks for asking should have put that in my question. She is perfectly healthy but our Vet said to limit her water because she can actually drink so much water she makes herself sick. So we measure her water to ensure she is getting more than enough but not so much it would harm her.

I was just hoping to talk to others who may have experienced this. Our vet said its similar to excessive thirst disorder in people where they will actually drink so much it is dangerous. Our other dogs never did this.

If anyone else has had this problem would like to hear from you our Vet said some dogs outgrow it some do not.

Most dogs try to drink bath water. I say this out of experience because I work at a vet hospital and have bathed hundreds of dogs of different breeds, sizes, and ages. I know a dog who will lick my hands after I've washed them til all the water is gone. My dog likes to lick water off my legs after a shower. Dogs will be dogs, and water seems to hold a certain facination for them. And the rain, well I've never seen it but I can't say it's odd.

You say puppy, and if she's truly still a puppy then I would say it's just puppy curiosity. If there is something you don't want her to do, then you need ot correct her with a quick NO, and then prevent/stop her from doing it. When you bathe, don't let water run down her snout, and repremand her if she tries to drink the water in the tub. Though I don't see a problem unless she's drinking soap. Also, when you take her to potty in the rain, bring an umbrella and hold it over her, if the rain isnt falling near he she's less likely to chase it.

You mentioned nothing about her water bowl itself. Does she drink excessively there too? ask the vet how much a dog of her size should be drinking, and try to calculate how much she drinks a day, and brink that info to the vet when you go. You can do this by putting in say one or two cups at a time, and counting how many time you refill the water per day. This will giv eyou a rough estimate. Do this for at least a week, so that you can figure out the average drinking per day for a week, which is a better indicator of drinking volume than one day.

Also... you said "if she could she would drink all day" this sounds like you limit her water. Never do that. If you do that, of course she drinks a lot when you finally give it to her. She knows better than you how much water she should be drinking. Even if her thirst is elevated due to an underlying condition, she is still not drinking "too much", because she would be drinking as much as necessary for her body as it tries to compensate for another condition.

maybe you should take her to the vet, you do know that dogs can have a sugar problem just like us humans. there could be something else wrong with her.

My dog has addison's disease but he WOULD NOT drink any water. You should maybe not give her so much! Maybe she should cut down a bit or maybe she's just fine and you think its a lot

Is she drinking or playing.

Drinking - Must see a vet

Playing - Buy a kiddie pool and let her have fun. Put a ball in it.

this is a medical problem and the dog is suffering, trying to quench a constant thirst. Please go to the vet.
