We have a 5 year old with allergies and we bought a Soft Haired Wheaten today and she still breaks out and gets itchy. The dog was kept at the store with another dog in it's cage, with many others around it.

How likely is it that if we get the dog throughly cleaned, she won't be allergic to the dog but the remains from being with the other dogs? Do they pass allegrens by just being around and playing with each other?

It is possible for the dog to pick up allergens from other dogs, so I would try giving the dog a thorough bath. It probably will still cause a reaction with your 5 year old. There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog there are just breeds that do not cause as much of a reaction, but some people still cannot be around the dogs.

Also, I really hope that you did not buy the puppy from a pet store.

Most pet alergies are related to dog dander - try bathing your pet or at least washing it in plain water & dry it & se how your child reacts - I personaly wouldn't have reccomended a weaton for a person with allergys - there are other breeds that are alot better in such 'allergy' cases

Do you mean your dog is allergic to your other dog? Even if you get the dog thoroughly cleaned he/she will still release dander. Are you sure that your dog is allergic to the other dog? I suggest you consult your vet and see if your dog can be given cortisone injections or something for his/her allergies.
