I've had my Golden Retriever for over 9 years now, and within the past year or so, he has gotten really protective with his bones. If I even pet him while he laying near his bone, he'll start growling. Also, I used to take him for car rides, but now he won't get out of the car when we get back to my house. He gets really stubborn and growls when I try and pull him out with a leash. He has never bitten me. He is a great pet. But has soon as he has something he thinks I want, he gets mean. We have never mistreated him. I give him love and attention all the time. I don't understand why he is doing this, especially being a breed that is known for their kindness. How should I fix this problem?

It is very cold here but when he has been out for maybe 5 minutes to do his business and we bring him in, he has difficulty climbing 5 stairs. He is not an old dog about 3 years old. Border Collie and something else. After he is in the house for abit then he is fine.

My friend just called me and asked if her Yorkie(female) could be pregnant by a Pitbill(male). She said Yorkie nipples were red and she looked fat. I didnt think so. I could not see how that could be possible. After searching on the internet I saw similar situations but with Large Female dogs. Can this happen? Any advice would be appreciated.

I am looking to adopt a dog or puppy in a few months. I have a toddler at home and was wondering if anyone else had any experiences to share. I am leaning towards an adult dog (considered 6months or older at our shelter), but am wondering if a puppy would be better. Is it better to adopt a puppy and let it grow up with my daughter and start fresh? Or an adult dog that is out of the puppy stage and obvious how his temperment will be? I just am afraid to get an adult and have an uncontrollable dog on hands with my child, on the other hand it would be nice to skip over the puppy stage. Any advice or personal experiences would be great. Thanks

My neighbor is calling the cops on us for our dogs barking. They only bark at people they don't know.Thats not very often. They also bark at other dogs in the nieghborhood that bark constant. I will admit sometimes they get to barking to mutch so we calm them down immediatly. But he never calls the cops on any of the others around. Can we take legal action for harrasing my wife? You see i'm in the military and my wife is home with our daughter alot by them selves, like now. I am currently in Iraq/ Kuwait. We have the dogs for their protection, and companionship.

Hello. I've moved from Japan with my dog, and now live in Ohio. Could you please help me out?

The vaccination that my dog has been given in Japan was "Duramune Max 5". I paid about $70 for this vaccination. It was needed once a year. I checked the vaccination name in the internet and found out there is the same one in America too, but how much will it be if my dog get shot by vet in America? Is it also need once a year?

Also, about heart worm medicine. "Milbemycin" is the name of my dog's medicine, but I couldn't find the same one when I searched for it in the internet. Instead, I found a lot of different kinds.....like the one you can buy in the internet(Heartgard plus, Iverhart Plus, Interceptor, Sentinel). Are these good enough for the heart worm prevention? Or should I get the specific medicine from vet? If so, how much will it be? Need it year round? (In Tokyo, it was needed from June through December. same here in America/Ohio?)

Thank you so much for your help

shelters and breeders had a quiz for potential buyers/adopters? A quiz that includes basic care, emergency situations, exercise and diet, play, having more then one pet, the laws in the area, etc.

Something that the buyer/adopter has to sit down and fill out in the presence of the breeder/shelter?

If the buyer/adopter fails then the shelter/breeder can either educate them or refuse to give them the dog. If they choose to educate they could then add a small fee for Doggie101....

Is it too much to ask? I think it would be awesome, but probably too far from reality....

If you ran over your dog and were told by the vet he had no internal injurys but that his wrist pin was broke and it would cost a lot of money $1500 for her to try and fix it.. would you pay the money or have the dog put down?
