It is very cold here but when he has been out for maybe 5 minutes to do his business and we bring him in, he has difficulty climbing 5 stairs. He is not an old dog about 3 years old. Border Collie and something else. After he is in the house for abit then he is fine.

Your dog probably has bad hips. Climbing stairs at all is bad for a dog's health, simply because most dogs aren't built for jumping like that all the time.

Suggestion: Get a board to span over the stairs to act as a ramp for your dog before you have some serious problems.

This is probobly not the case with your dog but, my friend has a dog and it is a border collie mix and it cant feel its back legs when it goes up stairs so it just drags them. Call your vet and tell him the simtums if he says its serious go in for a check up. Hope your dog is ok...CALI

He might have a bit of arthritis in his legs. Even younger dogs can develope that. My dog is 31/2 and has the same problem from time to time. if it gets worse, I would mention it at his next appointment with the vet.

He may suffer from Arthritis and his joints hurt from the cold. You can try giving him a canine aspirin a day, if that does not help him, you need to see a Vet as soon as you can. It may be that he has hip problems.

arthritis doesn't only strike the old, but can strike the young too even in dogs. If it is his back legs making it hard for him he may have hip problems, I would suggest calling the vet and asking them.

he's prolly just cold.. in a cold day if you leave your hands exposed, when you go inside youll find it hard to write for example. same logic applies to a dogs legs. also, dogs are prone to arthritus in their back legs (the age of onset varies) and this would make it hard for them to climb stairs

He probly gets cold if he is a short haired dog and he could have trouble with his legs so I suggest you take him to the vet.

Sounds like he may have arthritis. Yes a dog can get this too. Talk to your vet about meds.
