What you did by rescuing this dog was noble! Thank you for doing that. Sadly, I don' t think there is a place around that will take your dog and/or try to adopt it out. Most homeowners insurance companies will not even insure you if they knew you had a pit bull. This poor dog has been put through he*l and has mental scars because of it. The problem with pittys is that they are an exceptionally strong breed dog (hence the reason they are used for fighting). Once it has been used for fighting, they can't get rid of that mentality. Even when shown unconditional love from the new owners, I don't know if they have flashbacks or what but they almost always snap at some point. You would be lucky if it snapped at you, but it doesn't always work that way. A lot of time they snap at somebody walking past your house or at a young child or whatever. In that case, not only will you get sued, but the dog will be euthanised weather you like it or not. I don't say this to be cruel, believe me, I say it with great sorrow, but the best thing you can do for this poor dog is to take it to a vet and have it euthanized yourself. That way you can be there with him as he passes and he won't be alone or with complete strangers when it happens. I so wish you the best of luck!

If you take the dog to the "pound" it most likely will be humanely euthanized. From what I've learned, dogs like yours are not adoptable and are a liability for any shelter that takes them in. You should call around to the different rescue organizations and shelters in your area....and maybe find a pit bull rescue in your area. Most areas have pure-breed rescue groups.
Good luck.

A dog with that type of history would not be a very good candidate for adoption. Maybe you could find a home for the other dog. The pit could be jealous and if the other dog has softer temprement it may be more likely to find a home.

More than likely the shelter will kill the dog. You need to do a lot of research into dog training and spend a lot of time getting it out of your dog. My recommendation would be to get a crate, get it started with crate training, and keep it separated from the other animals until you learn better ways to control it. You can take control but it is going to take a lot of effort and time on your part.

They probably would. I watch all the Animal Cops programs on TV a lot and whenever they pick up a Pit with scars from fighting that is exactly what they do. Sorry. I know all Pits aren't bad since my daughter has two.

Usually with a fighting history they will euthanize the animal, they cannot risk putting a dog up for adoption that could escape the home and hurt another person or animal.

Put a muzzle on it and watch the dog whisperer. You have to become the pack leader to control the dog. The dog whisperer has several pits on his show. They get a bum rap because of the bastards that raise them and train them to fight.

If you are worried about them killing it take it to the Aberdeen humain society, they love all cats and dogs no matter what. I took my pittbull that was used for fitting there and they took him right in. and now he is in a good home with 3kids and he loves it. I go and visit him every once and a while. They would never kill him. He's to nice.

most likely they will kill it if the state has bans on pitbulls or if it doesnt pass the behavior tests that involve another dog i believe. Take it to a non-kill shelter or adopt it out yourself.

yes i'm quite sure that they will euthanise it, they would not take the risk to rehome it, even if it is a lovely dog, because of the reputation of the breed (obviously they see the scars)
