I am not saying this to be mean. If you can't afford to buy your pet maybe you need to think about this. Having a pet costs money (not just the purchase of it). You need bo buy it food. You need to pay for vet bills. I'm not just talking about the vet bills for when it gets sick or injured, I'm talking about the routine exams, bloodwork, vaccines and any preventative medications that it needs. Let me tell you, that stuff is expensive. And in many states, the rabies vaccine is required by law.
Again, I'm not saying this to be mean and I'm not saying that people who have no money don't deserve to have pets. I just want you to think about these things now instead of when these things come up and leave you desperate and hearbroken because no vet will see you when you can't pay them. When you have a pet who is sick or hurt, it can be very heartbroken.

Quality dogs cost money to breed. Do you want a possibly sick, tempermental, genetically defective dog because the breeder didn't care what they bred?

You can rescue a dog which is in reality cheaper because it comes with its spay/neuter, shots, wormings, and vet check which would cost a lot if you got a free dog and took it to the vet.

You could check with the SPCA Animal Shelter, sometimes people have to give up pets because they need to move or for health reasons.

If my wife had her way you could have ours. His name is Pedro and he's a strange little guy. We've had him for about 4 years and he is just starting to get friendly toward us. Before he would just cower in the corner.

Not likely to find one. You might find one at a shelter but there will be a fee for adoption.
