I have adopted an ex-cruelty case dog (maltese x poodle) who was 8 months old when i got her. she had never seen another dog and was very badly treated. she is now 16 months old and cant deal with other dogs. she gets aggressive and starts SCREAMING and growling and barring her teeth.
I would like to be able to take her out without stressing! Today i took her to a leashed dog beach, in which NONE of the dogs were on leashes. she went CRAZY and i had big wet dogs jumping all over me! She is spayed, fully vaccinated etc. She is toilet trained, basic training (sit, down). when she see's another dog she takes absolutely no notice of what i say - its like she sees right through me!
I need help! Please help me with ideas of how I can overcome this! I have tried distracting her, training her, gently socialising her, NOTHING is working!! she responds well 2 clicker training, but not in this situation... help... eeek!!

He is let out often and has a full bowl of food and fresh water. He gets plenty of affection and is totally spoiled. So what's with the pacing all of a sudden? Any suggestions?

I am 18 and will be moving out come this fall to go to college. I am only moving an hour away so it will be easy for me to take the train home on weekends, but I am so incredibly torn as far as weekdays for him. My sister and I are both away at college and it is only my dad who will live at home on weekdays. He works very long hours and I don't want him to be alone all day every day.

Any ideas for recreation/fun for the dog while we are away? What can I do to make him less lonely after I move out?

Do you think breeders should also focus on coming up with a new breed that has a healthy mix of genes from diff breeds, and that is bred to be, say.... very fast, strong, intelligent, physically beautiful, great attitude, superior sense of smell, sight (like sight hounds), etc.?

Please don't suggest one particular breed. They are all awesome and have diff strengths and weekneses, but I was wondering if anyone has heard about an "all-around" best of the best type dog. This one hopefully would not have the problems associated with many generations of inbreeding and linebreeding beacause it's genes would be a better mix.

I don't know, just a thought. And, thanks, in advance for your input.

My Husband and I have a 7 month old Jack Russell Terrier/ Border Collie mix puppy who gets lots of activity! We've been feeding him a mix of wet and dry Iams puppy food but noticed that he would frequently have diarrhea. I used to work at a pharmacy that sold Science Diet to customers whose vets had prescribed it and they had great things to say about it so on our last trip to the pet store we picked some up to try. But now that I've read some reviews here I am having second thoughts. Is Science Diet really that bad? What makes it so bad. We are first time dog owners and just started feeding him what they recommended at the pets store, but now we want to make sure that he gets everything he needs. He seems to like the Science Diet much better, but we want to make sure that it's good for him too. Your opinions and recommendations would be much appreciated!! Thanks!!

I am supposed 2 be getting a puppy around Friday or next week. But the problem is, she needs 2 be watched while I'm at school and my parents are at work. I will be able to care 4 her after I get out of school. But I'm not sure what 2 do with her while I'm gone. She really needs care and attention 4 her 1st at least 2nd or 3rd week. But I really want her 2 have care the time we're away all of the time...WHAT SHOULD I DO????!

We live in a rural area, where people dump dogs constantly. The humane society will not pick them up and tell us if we get a tag number, they will charge these people, but this doesn't do alot of good since they dump them about a mile down the road. Most are starving and if we take them to the humane society, they will just be put down(which is better than starving). We feed them and try to find homes, but in our county this is a really big problem. How do you educate people that this is wrong? Is there any thing that can be done about this?

Hello. I adopted a female dog from a free classified ads website on January 11th, 2007. They said she's around 3 years old and has been spayed and is up-to-date on all of her shots. At first I believed them until I noticed her rib cage bows out a bit on both sides. I was talking to someone online and they said she should have a scar on her abdomen area if she's been spayed. I looked all the way from her abdomen to the bottom of her rib cage and I do not see any scar on her undercarriage.

Her previous owner's never gave me any proof of any of what they promised me (that she's spayed and up-to-date on her shots). I've yet to take her into see a vet. I also feel movement under her rib cage. I know it's possible it may be just food digesting which I hope. ;-)

Thanks for reading. Hopefully her scar just disappeared after time.

I am really tired and get very offended when I start reading articles, questions, comments, etc. that critisize the APBT breed. APBT and APBT-looking dogs are often associated with the urban and hip hop culture, and many young, predominantly male, people purchase them on the grounds of wanting a 'tough dog' — sadly, dogs of any breed acquired for such purposes often end up maltrained, misused and in poor health.

My pom/border collie mix, age 12, 23lbs., began sneezing and bouts of wheezing (sounds like a good old-fashioned asthma attack!) when we moved from Texas to Nevada 3 years ago. I took her to the vet's when the wheezing episodes came too often to rule out CHF, collapsed trachea, etc. She had tests, x-rays, etc., nothing found but a UTI, resolved. Still sneezes and has wheezing attacks not so often. (I say she has allergies!). Otherwise, fit, trim, active and happy. The bad part (other than wiping her nose from time to time!) is the top of her little black nose is dry and cracked, but she licks off anything I put on it to ease the dryness. I don't want to give her benedryl for the sneezing because I'm worried it will make her nose worse. What can I put on it that won't get licked off right away but will still give her some relief? Thanks!

I will be flying to Europe in 2 months and I have to take my 2 yo bull terrier with me . It's a 9-10 hrs non stop flight . Because he is not a small dog he won't be able to be with me during the flight . What can I do to make him feel comfortable and most of all : what can I do to make sure that he is safe there ?

Recently I heard so many horror stories about dogs dying on planes that I'm really worried...

Unfortunately not taking him with me is not an option......

Why are dogs used to guide blind people if they cant even see as many colors as we do? Black and white isnt that much better than a blind person. how do they know when to cross a street?
