Put the poopy diapers where she can't get them. It may be what kept her alive when she was a stray, so she values it as dinner.
As you say she is a small dog, there is no reason why diapers can't be put out of her reach.

Yuck, but obviously not unheard of.
Sometimes you can correct the behavior if it is eating it's own or another dogs by adding certain products to her food.
But, you can't do that with the baby, and the baby is only going to eat better and better food, so the poo gets better for the dog.

First, understand that this is not a behavior that is easily corrected. The best thing to do is to keep the diapers out of reach, up high, or in a diaper genie, or empty the trash every evening.
Also, when you go out of the house she should be in a doggie crate. It will help her feel safe and keep her out of the poo and you won't come home to those lovely surprises.

On the plus side, your baby will get potty trained at some time and you won't have the diapers to deal with then.

Good luck!

Give her a good quality dog food. After 3 days she will eagerly eat it. Stop the people food or picky eating is the result. Feed her the same time every day and take her food away after 15 minutes. Lock the dirty diapers at night or take them to the garbage. Eating feces isn't healthy for any animal. Prevention is the key. It's healthier for everyone if the soiled diapers are disposed of properly. Have a great year and may things improve very soon.

Yes, this is a "learned behavior" of hers. The best and easiest thing you can do is to put the diapers where she cannot get to them (such as a coat closet, enclosed shower, garage, etc.). The only way she will break this behavior cycle is to not have the option to fulfill it. Also, you may want to consider having her vet test her feces, to make sure she does not have any intestinal parasites. And last but not least, if you want her to eat her dog food, you must stop giving her other sources of food (such as table scraps). She is an animal, so when she gets hungry, she will in fact eat what is given to her. A good quality dog food that is affordable is Nutro Max, and you can pick this up at any pet supply store such as Petsmart and Petco. Be sure to gradually change her diet from her current dog food to the Nutro Max over a 7 day period, so she does not end up with diarrhea.

I used to have several dogs and cats on my farm, and the dogs always did a good job of "cleaning up" after the cats! Something about some dogs that they find feces appetizing! Not all dogs do it, and among the ones that do, it never seems to sicken them. Dogs, of course, have a much stronger stomach than humans. But yes, it's messy, since she doesn't put the "scraps" back in the pail after cleaning them off. Best thing is to get a locking diaper pail, and empty it often so the odors don't get overwhelmingly attractive to her. Maybe even put the pail behind a closed door when you go out? The kid won't be in diapers forever, so it's not going to be a permanent thing.

This behaviour is a common things among dogs. They will also go into a cats litter box to eat the feces. Your dog is lacking a certain nutrient. You say your dog will not eat dog food, that's because you are willingly giving your dog table food. Stop giving him human food, put him on a good balanced dog food. A dog will never go hungry. Stick to the dog food, you will see that your dog will get all the nutrients from the dog food, and not hunt out the dirty diapers.

I was told by someone who has a dog that eats it's own poop to put a few pieces of pineapple (canned chunks) in their food when they get their supper. You can also feed your dog a teaspoon of canned dogfood with it's dry food and add a little warm water and that should make it's food more appetizing. Also do not feed table scraps, that's what makes most dogs picky!!

You're lucky, I had a dog that would run away from the house and bring back poopy diapers from god knows where. My friend said that it was probably a crack baby and she was addicted to them.

But seriously, the behavior is learned now and while it is possible to teach an old dog new tricks it is easier to keep the diapers somewhere the dog can't go.

Don't panick, a lot of pups do it and will eventually grow out of it. Crush a bit of pineapple in her food. It makes the poo taste unpalatable for your dog. Give the other dog pineapple too. Otherwise the little one will just switch to eating the other dog's poo. Also, picking up dog droppings as soon as possible is good animal husbandery. +++

get a trash can with a lid you have to open by pushing the lever on the bottom with your foot....or diaper geine works wonders also....if your child had something of yours you didn't want him/her to play with would you keep it on the floor but contiunesly say no....prolly not....you would put it out of reach so the same thing needs to be done with the dog....dogs will not starve themselves to death they will eat their dog food but being that you are prolly giving in and giving her people food and not putting the diapers out of reach there is no real reason why she needs to eat her dog food...she is not getting the viatmins that she needs by eating people food....
