Chihuahua's are the smallest BREED.
but, the smallest type of dog is a teacup poodle. (which isnt a whole breed)

Not only is the Chihuahua the smallest breed of dog in the world, it's the only "natural" toy breed. That means that the Chihuahua is naturally small and, unlike toy poodles and other small dogs, it hasn't been purposefully bred to be a smaller version of a larger breed. There really is no such thing as a "teacup or tiny toy" breed. The correct group AKC is the toy group people just use the word teacup to mean the runt or really small but there is no such breed. Chihuahua's can be up to 9lbs(or even more overweight) but are usually 2-6lbs fully mature and can either be long haired or short haired, with ears upright or phalene (hanging down) and come in lots of colors including merle! I'd go for a long-hair most people don't even know they are chihuahua's since they look so cuddly..

The smallest breed is the Chihuahua. Chihuahuas are toy breeds but there is no such thing as a toy/teacup Chihuahua or other breed.

The smallest dog in the world lives in Slovakia but the shortest is a Yorkshire Terrier that is only 3 inches high. Toy Yorkies are the smallest breed.

chihuahua. Interestingly, the smallest dog alive to day is not a chihuahua. I think its a yorky. It was on TV recently.

Well I know that my exhusbands friend spent $1500 on a chihuahua that fullgrown was still a little less than a pound. I walked in the door one day not knowing about her and she could have got squashed. Chihuahuas can be extremly tiny.

Yorkie poo's are pretty small- it's a cross between a yorkie and TOY poodle. My neighbor has one that's a year and a half old and is smaller than alot of chi's ive seen. And he is cute, too!
