as the puppy gets older; you maybe able to guess what he/she is mixed with. my vet really knows dogs, so when you take the puppy to the vet; it would be a question that I would ask

I agree that a body shot would be helpful, but based on just the head I would also agree that there is likely some Newfie in there. The broadness of the skull with the amount of hair leads me to believe that.
I would check the tongue for blue/purple coloration, but I'm not seeing "Chow" when I look at the ears, even with a Lab influence in there.

first thought was a newfoundland - absolutely TERRIFIC breed but VERY big and hairy!
my secound thought was maybe a chow - in which case, "watch out!!!!!!" one of my biggest pet peeves is when people pre-judge dogs by thier breed (ie pit bulls) when it's almost always the owner that makes or breaks a dogs personality. the ONLY exception i make is chows - i've never seen a trustworthy chow and never heard anything good about them. i think this is a breed that the average person/family should definately avoid! to be fair, i've heard they can be fairly loyal to their family, but if there ever was a lawsuit waiting to happen this is the breed...good luck finding a groomer, many won't touch them.
i do hope they give the dog a chance tho. he/she is adorable!!! just hope they educate themselves and keep a lookout for problems and maybe they can be gotten under control if taken care of right away.

My best guess would be lab and newfoundland. It's hard to tell now, obviously, but as the puppy grows you'll be able to eliminate possibilities based on its size (a newfoundland mix will be a big dog).
Either way, he's a cutie!

Definitely looks like some newfoundland. The hair, ears, snout look very much newfie but without seeing the body, I can't guess much more.
Are you sure s/he's a mix?
If s/he is a mix, I'd say newfie with lab.

It would help to have a whole body shot. Looks lab/spaniel or lab/border collie. Could also be Newfoundland mix.
