Hi, I had a male chihuahua who would have seizures. Well, he went into a coma and the vet finally found out he had some liver problems...I ended up having a Liver Shunt put into his liver to help control this..I don't know if this helped but it may be worth a shot to ask your vet about it. Good luck with the little guy! I have had 3 chihuahua's and they make the best pets ever!

Some vets prescribe Tegretol or Valium. My Chihuahua takes Valium on a as needed basis. I made this decision because a lot of the long term anti-convulsive medications have side effects such as sleepiness and decrease in activity.Other vets prescribe other anti seizure drugs depending on preference. Some require regular blood tests to ensure proper blood levels. Seizures don't hurt but causes brain damage if prolonged. Sometimes they can injure themselves. Go to a vet that treats this disorder. Even though there are many causes for seizures, epilepsy is a common cause among dogs.Just like doctors, vets are only practicing medicine. I'm sorry your vet took this view. mine has had gran mal seizures for 3 years and I use the short term Valium which doesn't prevent seizures but shortens the duration when given as needed. Call around and ask the offices what the vet orders for epilepsy in dogs. If they give a couple of names, then that's the vet to see. Good luck and I hope you find the help you need.

My dear, take him to another vet, immediately. There is medication available to help with the seizures. I speak from experience, having had 2 dogs with seizures. If the vets are telling you there is nothing they can do. There is something wrong with that vet. My 10 year old g.s. used to get seizures a lot. Now that she is on meds, she gets may be one or two a year. There are tests that can be run to determine if there is a liver problem which can cause seizures or epilepsy. All are treatable. So get your self and the little bruiser to another vet. The one you saw was just stringing you along...

One of my dogs has seizures. When they first started in April he had one, then couple days later had like three in six hours, then next day like five in eight hours. They done some test to rule out other things that could have caused the seizures and decided it was epilepsy. Then my vet started him on phenobarbital and this controls them. He has had one seizure since April 2006. Other than the seizures he is a happy healthy dog that turned one in December. There are a lot of places online that can inform you on epilepsy in dogs. There is another drug that is used for seizures but I cannot remember the name. If your vet has not tried medication you need to find another Vet.

try another vet. what do you mean they couldn't do anything? if he's having several seizures a day or they last for long periods of time meds can be given to help control them. either call your vet back and tell them the frequency has increased or find a different vet.

who told you that they cant do anything? That is total crap. get a second opinion . My vet says they have pills to control seizures due to epilepsy . My mom's sheppard has epilepsy and they control hers with pills . She has not had a seizure in 8 months . Please get your little guy to another vet sounds like you have one that does not like to deal with sick animals or one animal that is handicapped in some way . Get rid of that vet he is in the wrong business if he or she does not deal with any animal that has a disease . good luck to you and your little guy.

find another vet and make an appointment...I''m sure there must be something they can do for him....Letting him have repeated seizures can be dangerous or life threatening. Good luck

Have him checked by a vet. he may have epilepsy. Has he ever been injured aroung his head ? the vet can prescribe medication if epilepsy is the problem. Good luck.
