Sorry, everyone else on here asks stupid questions so I thought I might as well ask one! LOL! Yes, I know TONS of breed names and other words are always misspelled on here... But my pet peeve is SHEPHERD because I own, show, and breed them. I'm amazed at how many people own "Shepards"... I've never known a GSD to "ard" sheep... Nor do I know any that "hard" sheep. They HERD sheep... They are German Shepherds, Australian Shepherds, White Shepherds... Not Shepards, Shephards, Sheperds, etc. LOL

...in the rural areas. This really bothered me. I bought it up to several local people, and they kind of shrugged it off as if it was no big deal. These dogs were feral, emaciated, and looked broken down from having litters & a rough life. Some were purebreds (coonhounds, Beagles & Pit Bulls), some a mix of recognizable breeds. It still makes me sad to think of it - does anyone know of any possible solution to help these poor dogs, and/or better educate & encourage people in that area to spay & neuter their pets?

I am getting my home ready for a new puppy. What I read says more of what type of toys not to get them. This will be my first Bichon puppy. The last six years (no kids in the house any more) we had only cats. We are setting up an exercise pen in the house with a crate in it.
Now I wish to get some toys ready.

Recently my dog has given birth to nine puppies, and ever since word has gotten around, I have had so many people hounding me about "saving them one". Many of these people have been known to neglect animals in the past. I want all of the puppies to have a loving family. Please tell me how I can politely tell these people no without offending them, and also how can I go about making sure all my puppies are placed in loving homes?

My dog, Cookie, is a 7y/o Boston Terrier mix. She has a wonderful temperament, and we are looking forward to her whelping within the next 2-3 weeks. My husband and I are new to this aspect of pet ownership, so we would like some advice on how to prepare for the coming event and how to care for the puppies once they are here. Anything helpful would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm curious, I actually plan on getting 2 very young puppies, one a yorkie and the other a schipperke. Now, will these 2 butt heads or are they very much compatible, I don't plan on breeding them.

If anyone can give me or point me in the right direction of where I can get some answers I'd appreciate it, thanks!

my chihuahua has a black, hard scab-like looking thing under her arm. At first I though it was a tick so I removed it with a tweezer, but it wasn't a tick. It just looked like a black hard scab. The next morning it grew right back and looks like it is still growing. I'm going to wait a couple more days befor I take her to the vet to see if it is just a scab but I find it very weird how fast it grew back. She is playing and eating as usual and seems like she is fine but this thing is scaring me. She is a year and half old. Does anyone know what this could be?

We have a lab-mix and she is a little over a year old. We just acquired her back in October so we don't know anything about her history. She got a "good bill of health" at the vet's office though. However, just recently she has started to shed a lot! It is real bad when you pet her. The hair just falls out. If I barely tug (not hard at all!) on a few strands they all fall out. It mainly happens on her back by her tail. She isn't acting any differently except maybe sleeping more often (but it is icy and cold here so she can't really play outside). We have changed up her dog food quite often so I am wondering if that has anything to do with it. We also tend to give her a bath every 2-½ weeks with an oatmeal-based shampoo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (P.S. Please be kind with your words.)

She was a stray about 18 months ago. We took her in and she's not fixed. She has had 3 heats since we took her in. She has the most wonderful personality and I love her more than any other dog I've ever had. She has no access to male dogs since she is always in the house. I'm afraid that she'll die under the anesthetic. Is it worth having her fixed with a possibility of dying or having her stay intact and worry about the cancer she may get? I'm in a quandry. I want to do what's best for her so that she can live a happy and long life. Thanks for any advice.

She had the puppies 10 days ago and my husband is worried about the fact that she still has a slightly bloody discharge. I know the answer for humans, but not dogs! :) I want to make sure I dont need to take her to the vet. Thank you for your answers.

I am just wondering what is a normal growth process for my rottweiler. Trying to figure out if she is petite. She weighs 61 pounds and is 10 months old. She doesn't seem to be very tall. Probably about 22 inches. Not sure if I measure right. But when will she stop growing. I want her to get big, and everyone says she is small.

About two weeks ago we noticed that on her right side she had a bald spot and it looked like something had bitten her. The vet did a wood lamp test and cytology in the office and said he didn't think it was ringworm and did not seem that concerned, however, two weeks later the hair had not grown back and there is some inflammation and slight swelling. Has anyone had this happen to their dogs before, again she is only 8 months old.

Curious about ages of children and if you had dog or kids first. Why did you choose this breed? Thanks
