The average life-span for a Dachshund is 12-14 years, according to Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds by D. Caroline Coile. Obviously, some Dachshunds will live longer than others.

If taken care of correctly, meaning vaccinated yearly, fed the right foods (no table food), and periodic wellness checks from your vet, it should live to be approx. 10 to 12 years. Could live as long as 15. ( this is a "perfect world" senario). Remember, the smaller the breed, the longer they live. Great Danes for example live short lives, 7 to 9 years.

check on akc.org to get the life expectancy. But that is just an average. Dachshunds can live up to 17, 18 years if they are well taken care of, and also very lucky.
