Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the AKC judges base their decisions on how closely that dog matches the standard.

For example, in the working group competition, the judge bases each individual dog on its own breed standard. Whichever dog is closest to their standard is the winner...right?

At the competitions, the judges spend less than a minute with each dog and then just watch it run around a bit. Some of these standards are pretty specific...I find it hard to believe that these judges are really comparing the dog to everything the standard says.

Do the judges have an awesome memory for the standards, or are they not actually comparing the dog to the standards as closely as they should be?

Well on Sunday I got a new puppy.But there are two problems with the new puppy htat is that I don't have a name for him(it is a male dog).So if any one has a name for him or know a site please tell me I will appreciate.Well the puppy is a is mix.The mother is Pittbull and the dad is Ruttweiler.Please Help with the name.
And the other thing that I have a problem with it is that he doesn't want to sleep in its bed he wants to sleeep in my bed.and if I don't put him in my bed he willstart to cry and cry.Last night he cried for like 2 hours until I had to bring him to bed with me.He does get along with my other two dogs so that is not the problem.PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My son and I have been chased by this dog before. (Its a rottweiler) I have called the police and animal control but they will not do anything. I want to go on walks with my son but am afraid of the dog. What can I take with me to protect us? I was thinking mace but was not sure if that would stop the attack quick enough. I dont want to shoot it because I dont want to get in trouble. Any suggestions??

he keps walking around and strecthing, he keeps vomiting, he hasn't eaten anything unusual, expect for some left overs. If this isn't a big problem is tere anything i can do to make him feel better

when we got home yesterday she was fine... about a half hour later she put her paws on top of her head and started to cry. then she walked around very disorientated when my husband picked her up, she was shaking badly (she shakes when shes scared) but this seemed more intense.
she was fine after a minute and was running, playing, and barking like normal.
i searched the house to see if she could have eaten something that may have caused it, and found the shell of a tea bag. she must have dug it out of the trash and ate it. could this have caused her... for a lack of a better word "seizure"??

Hi! I have a friend whos dog is having puppies soon (my dog is the dad). The dog is a Mini Shorthair Dachshund. This is her first litter, she is 2 1/2 years. Any tips on how to know when she is due or how to make her more comfortable? Also, any tips for when she is in labor?

I know that certain things that people eat are NOT good for dogs. But the ingredients in dog's food has got to come from somewhere and I would prefer I KNEW where it all comes from...most of which can be obtained by ANYBODY I would imagine! I am pretty sure I can get around using horse hooves and still feed my dogs something that is safe and nutritious! Sorry~just pre-fighting off the naysayers who would have been bound to deride me for feeding my dog something it shouldn't be eating because I certainly wouldn't waste my time cooking for my dog if I was making it something that was worse for it than the food I can buy in less than 2 min. at the store! My puppy was sick and we took him to the vet - he seems to have gotten better, but he's still not playing and running around like he usually does. How many days will it take for him to regain his strength and be normal?? Also - he was the smallest out of the litter, does that mean he's going to be a sickly dog??

He jumps on me or whoever any chance he gets. he is extremely friendly and gets overly excited when he see's me or a visitor. I can walk away for 1 minute and when i returnn he acts like i've been gone for days. Help!!

constantly. I have been giving him water several times a day. But if I leave it out he won't stop drinking it. My mom gave him a bath and when she placed him in the water he wouldn't stop drinking it. I let him outside he did his business and then ater I brought him in he went again in 20 minutes. So now I cut him down to several drinks a day but not a whole bowl. He seems like he is more thirtly. I cut out his drinks after 10 and place him in his cage and let him out at 6 a.m. He holds all night. Anyone have had this problem and any suggestions welcomed. How much should he be drinking in a full day. He weighs about 20 pounds.

I just read PetLover's questions about the irrelevant American answers on here.

Now in my opinion, regardless of how you feel, wouldn't it have been better to just move on to another forum rather then slam another country's people?

I can't believe I let this get to me like this, but it really bothers me that people can be that ignorant and crude.

Futhermore, that should have been a question posted in the Yahoo Answers section, not Dog (as should this one, but no one would know what I was talking about if I posted this there).

Is it me? Or did this person REALLY cross the line by posting that?

My dog has been raised mostly with my mom, brother and I. He only likes my brothers friend kirk. I see all kinds of dogs that are nice to other peope and you can take them out in public, but not my dog. how do i get him to be nicer to other people?
