So sad. The thing I would be most concerned about is the fact that she snapped and was aggressive enough to kill. The worry would be if it could happen again and what if it is a child, or even someone elses pet and they press charges or sue you. You might talk to your vet and see about temprament testing and seek advice as to this situation. But you know her better than anyone, do you trust her? Was this totally out of character? I am so sorry that this happened, must have been awful.

A well trained rottie who knows it's place will not attack and kill another animal. Sounds like your friend needs to get this dog in to immediate training and probably should have a long time ago. It also sounds like the rottie was not socialized well as a puppy. The rottie needs to be kept under control at all times and muzzled whenever outside the home. They are too dangerous of a breed for someone to not train, handle, and socialize them properly from puppy all the way up. I think your friend deserves more of the blame than the rottie.

Quite Possibly. Was it accidental, or did the Rottie "attack". Did the Lhasa attack and was the Rottie defending itself? Are there any other behavioral problems the Rottie has had? How old was it when it was removed from its litter? Has the Rottie had any training? Is it intact? Has the Lhasa had any training? Was it intact? Dog to dog aggression is NOT a predictor of dog to human aggression, however when a dog kills another dog, there is a problem. We need more info and the Rottie needs to be evaluated by a dog behaviorist. Not just a trainer and not an idiot like Cesar Millan.

It all really depends on the situation. Have the two dogs been together before? or did they just meet? If you Rottweiler normally aggressive? or was the laso apso the aggressor? You must consider these questions and more before you make such a decision. If the two dogs have never seen each other before and your Rottweiler has not been around very many small animals then it was most likely a predator/prey act. Big dogs have a tendency to enjoy 'hunting' smaller animals. Another question: how is she around kids? My best answer is that if your friend does not want to put her dog to sleep, then she needs to keep her away from other animals. You must consider all factors, the good and bad; add them up and see if they balance out.

This is a tough question. Was the Rottie playing, or was it being aggressive and killed the Apso on purpose? Sometimes Rot's can be overly excited and play rough, even with big dogs. I am sure that if you ask your vet that he will say to put the dog to sleep. Try to see if the friend will agree to put it's dog through training before you resort to being put to sleep. See if you can change the dogs bad behavior before it gets worse.

Yes, you should put the dog down. others will say give it to the shelter or someone else, but after a dog has fought to the death of another animal, it WILL do it again. I don't think you'd want to be responsible for the dog killing something or someone else. Children get attacked by dogs like this all the time and it's due to dog owners being unresponsible. There is no reason for a dog to get that mad. Please put him down, he obviusly had very bad aggression problems.

Well yeah know lhasa's can be little a - holes. I have seen more lahasa's with attitude than rottis and sometimes a dog can only take so much from the little fools.
Have a lhasa my dogs need to eat!!

Not necessarily. But she should be handled with the up-most responsibility. NEVER have the opportunity to harm a dog again. Always leashed & muzzled when out & about. If she were to show ANY aggression toward people I'd give it some serious thought

Absolutely not. I do not know the details of this incident, but, putting a dog to sleep because it killed another dog is asinine. There were other factors there, I am sure. If you can provide more details, it would be great. But, do not put the dog to sleep because it killed another dog.

I have a female pug and a female laso apso- and they fight horribly! female dogs are very territorial and will fight with any female dog that they feel is invading their space. so, I say no- let the dog be. She was most likely acting on instincts.
