Well, years ago a trainer suggested a knee in the chest for my American Eskimo, but this didn't phase her one bit. So I don't really feel this method is very effective in very hyper dogs really... and that seems to be your case.

Our current trainer told us to immediately say "off" in a firm voice and turn our backs on the puppy until she is down on all 4's, at which time, we immediately turn around, praise her and say "Good off" in a pleasant tone.

Kneeing a dog down, or yelling at them no, without doing anything else is still a form of attention, even if it's negative. The idea here is to "remove" the reward for jumping up, which is to turn your back and ignore the dog until he does as you want.

The hard part is getting family and friends to help you on this. More than once I have had someone say to me, "oh, it's okay, she's just excited". Okay, sure, that person doesn't mind, but what about someone who does. I have had to persistently remind family and friends how to handle the jumping up situation to help us discourage it all together. If you allow it sometimes, it sends mixed signals and confuses the dog as to what you want of them. It's VERY IMPORTANT that you ALWAYS address the jumping behavior each and every time.

This has worked well with our Border Collie puppy and tho it does take time to accomplish (so be patient and persistent) it will work. Putting your dog in a sit is a very good thing too and is something you can impliment once you have the jumping more under control.

Edit: Also, never step backwards to get your dog down on all 4's as you are "allowing" him to have your space and as an alpha pack leader, you shouldn't allow this.

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog.
The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.
The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

When i first got my puppy she would do that all the time but she is only 7 months old and weighs almost 75pounds, and we have to young children so this can really be a problem... there are a few different things we tried... 1. keep a short leash (like 5ft) on it at all times and when it jumps grab the leash and pull down and (we say "No Jumping") but you can use whatever you want... stay down, down, off, etc. its very helpful when company comes to have the leash on your pup b/c you already have a lot more Control. when your company comes in, the pup will get super excited so keep an eye for the first few mins... but once they get use to the person being there, you won't have to hold the leash... 2. when i have company or when i first walk into the house after work, i immediately put my dog out side, i have a glass door so she can see everything that is going on but this gives her a little time to clam down... 3. i think this was the most effective... "knee in the chest" like when it jumps up put your knee up so that its chest connects with your knee... its won't hurt them but it doesn't feel good either... and you'll have to do this continuously for like a good week or so and eventually they get the idea. i would say the first 4 months it was hell!!! but after she got to be a little older, we have NO problems with jumping... we can go to the dog park and she runs up to people we just say "no jump" and she doesn't!!! lol but i remember when we first started i thought she was NEVER going to stop... hope that helps!

Every dog needs some type of training. The first class I ever took a dog to was https://tinyurl.im/WPTwS

It's a very basic kind of class. They will help you with your dog, and show you how to work with your dog at home.

They'll also answer any questions you have about your dog's particular problems and how to handle them. The most important thing in dog training is to be consistent and work with your dog at home on the lessons. The PetSmart class teaches sit, down, come, and the very basics every dog needs to know. They will also help socialize your dog. You are unhappy with an untrained dog, and believe it or not, the dog is actually unhappy to. You need to take your dog now, as the older he gets, the harder it will be to correct your dog's bad habits. Plus the classes are fun for you and your dog. My dog went from that first PetSmart class on to advanced obedience classes. You might also contact your local humane society. The one in my area offers obedience classes with a very good trainer at a reduced price.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/sG93v

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

It is very difficult to train a dog if you do not have the proper dog training equipment. The right piece of equipment, when properly fitted, helps aid in communication between you and your pet.

Leather Dog Collars, Harnesses, and Leashes

Basic training equipment that every owner needs is a leather dog collar and a dog leash. When you are placing the collar on your pet, you will want to make sure that it is snug enough that it won't slide over your dog's head should they balk, but it isn't so tight that it is restricts their ability to breathe.

Every time you put the collar on your dog, you need to check the fit. Puppies grow, and older dogs can gain and lose weight as well, which will also impact how the collar fits. In addition to making sure that the collar fits properly, you will want to check to make sure that the buckle isn't showing signs of strain, that the stitching is good, and that the leather hasn't developed dry rot.

Many people also like to have a leather dog harness for their dog. Many dog owners feel that a dog harness is more secure, and also provides better control than a traditional dog collar. The harness allows you to move the dog's entire torso, as opposed to simply jerking on the neck when you need the dog to stop or heel.

Knowing How to Properly Use Dog Training Equipment

Knowing the type of equipment that you need is only part of the dog training experience. You also need to know how to properly use it. The best way to make sure that you are using the equipment properly is by signing up for a dog obedience course.

The great thing about dog obedience courses is that you will be working with someone who knows how dog training equipment works, and they will also be able to offer tips and suggestions about what you can do when you and your pet seem to be having communication issues. It is important to note that if you have a pet that tends to be aggressive, whether towards other dogs or people, the instructor might suggest that your dog wear a dog muzzle. This will allow the other dog owners in the surrounding environment to feel more secure, and may also prevent the outbreak of a fight from ensuing between your dog and other dogs in the class.

Advanced Dog Training Options

As your pet gets older, you may decide to explore more training options. Once a dog has mastered basic obedience, there are several different options available to you. Some people decide that they want to teach their puppy how to move through obstacles, and then later go on to compete in agility classes.

Some people even decide to learn more about having their dog certified to be a search and rescue dog. If you decide that you want to pursue a specific type of advanced dog training, you will be required to purchase additional dog training equipment that is applicable for your specific needs.

The exact type of equipment that you and your dog will need will depend on the type of training you pursue. For example, if you are hoping to utilize your dog as a means of protection, chances are highly likely that any attack dog training equipment that you will need will be entirely different from the majority of the training tools that you would purchase for agility training.

When you have the proper dog training tools, and have been educated about how they should be used in the proper manner, you will find that training your canine family member is much easier than you would expect.

Make sure that when people come to visit, before they enter the house, tell them that they should ignore the dog until he is calm. Then they can pet him. Do NOT let your dog be praised for jumping. If he is a small dog and wants to be picked up, then you wait until he stops jumping to pick him up.

Remember your dog is happy to see you and is glad you are there. Be stern and consistent with whatever method you choose. My dog use to do the same thing when I got her. I also had an 8 yr old child at the time and she would do the same and cause my child to fall over. I would put my knee up and and give her a stern 'No'. I had my child turn around and ignore her. After my dog ran into my knee a couple of times and my child just ignoring her, she quit jumping because she didn't like us not paying attention to her. Try not to praise or acknowledge him until he is sitting or down in front of you. The knee is to make it uncomfortable for the dog as it usually connects with the chest. It is not to cause the dog harm. It is going to take work on your part, just remember to keep at it and use the same technique all the time as changing will only confuse him. Just be patient and Good Luck.

I had a dog like that once, and the only way to get him to stop doing that is to train him. When you walk in the house and he starts getting all excited all you have to do is look him dead in the eye and say "sit!" If he does it, give him a treat and reward him but each time he jumps up on you, you have to say it loudly but say no! push him down and tell him to sit, you have to work with them and in time they will get the point, remember dogs are smarter than cat's....lol
