I know ALL dogs probably do not do this, but I have observed my German Shepherd do this and now that we just got a 12 week old Maltese I have noticed her do it too. And there is a difference because the German Shepherd goes outside and we have a pad that the puppy goes on inside the house. I was just curious as to why they wipe their back paws.

I know barking is a matter of training, home environment, etc. but I want to start with a dog breed that is less likely to bark than the others. Who's the most peaceful, relaxed, NON-BARKING dog breed you know? :) Thank you.

she is a 15 week old weimaraner and she cries like mad when we leave her. we have tried leaving the radio on, toys are easily accessable, we leave some treats for her on the kitchen floor and we've even left a ticking clock underneath her bedding. its starting to annoy our neighbour which is subsequently affecting my girlfriend now. is it just a matter of time before our dog gets used to being on her own or are there any "tricks of the trade" that we could try. I have patience so i don't mind what to try, shame my neighbour hasnt any patience. thank you

She will eat when I hand feed her dry food and will eat human left-overs out of her bowl but won't eat her own food. And yes I have tried various things like moving the bowl and changing the bowl/plate. I have even left her for 3 days thinking she will get hungry enough to eat on her own but nooo luck! I am taking her to the vet tomorrow because she has lost weight but after my phone call tonight, the vet didn't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

I recently acquired a beautiful Pit Bull puppy from a woman. The mother had stopped feeding the pups and the owners couldn't care for them. I was told she is 5 weeks but she is so tiny I believe she's more like 3 weeks. She's about 10in long and her teeth haven't popped through her gums yet. She is still very wobbly on her feet also. Any suggestions on feeding/care for my little girl? What is a good food to start with? she is on puppy formula now.

My 4 year old German Shepherd, Fluffy, has 2 broken ribs, a dis-located hip and has 'Grade 7' elbow dysplasia (don't know wha grade 7 means). He is only 4 yrs old, very fit and healthy (besided the probelsm listed) but I just can't afford the surgery and medication he needs. Vet said it would cost over $2000 to do the surgery and give all the medication! Is there something else I can do for my darling dog? I have asked the vet for other options - he said surgery was the best option. He is in so much pain and I hate seeing him like this; he cries when he is in bed. He got ran over by a truck only 2 days ago and the signs of his injuries are showing a LOT!!!! I have 3 children aged 2, 7 and 12 and a hubby that doesn't work. I earn around $1700 a fortnight and we wouldn't be able to eat for 4 weeks if I allowed the surgery!!!

Please help me with my options. I have no idea what to do. My kids are so attached to Fluffy; we can't put him to sleep so please don't suggest that.

the breed of dog that would suit me?

- No long haired breeds
- Protective of owner/s and house
- Small to small medium size
- Friendly to our friends
- Will like being indoors a great deal
- Will like being outdoors at times
- Can't be a yappy (barking) breed
- Can't be taught easy/fairly easily
- NO poodles (or curly haired equivalents)
- Sturdy breed
- Well priced
- We live in Brisbane, Australia

We were looking at Whippets, but they seem to be expensive.
WE were maybe thinking something along the lines of a Jack Russell or Chihuiahua x Fox Terrier.

What do you think?

i'm getting a puppy very soon as a late late late birthday gift, and i'm having trouble picking a name. i thought maybe some of you could help me out with some fun, new, and original co ed names because i don't know if i will be getting a female or male yet. i don't like "simple" names. example: max, spot, princess, rocky, (i already have a dog named that), etc. i want a name that no one would really think of. i have a few, but i thought it would be nice to hear some suggestions first. thank you to those who reply!

no stupid names, please.

How do vets know which breed is this. I wanted to adopt a pure german Shepherd puppy. I want some help. I will buy it from Pet shop. No papers. just puppies. So i need some skills please help. 2 month or younger. how to know if it is pure german shepherd or not. I have seen pictures. But i cant tell pure or hybrid. I have a puppy i thought it is german shepherd but people here (@ yahoo answers) mostly say it is not a pure bred GSD. So please tell me, any link for guidance. Or tips or tricks to recognise the breed. Some people say if i lift puppy from ears; If it crys, it means it is not a pure bred. and if not cry. It means it is pure. but . Thats not it. and Its a Cruetual way.

I have a maltese/poodle mix that was born on October 1st. I took her to my vet for her first shots and to get wormed a few days ago. I told him that she had been having runny bowel movements but he wasn't very concerned because she was active and appeared healthy. Today she had very little appetite and now I notice that she is lethargic and she has an oily substance on her ears. There is also a foul smell and I am quiet concerned because the vets clinic doesn't open for several hours. I would appreciate any help I could get. Is there something I can give her?
