hi, my 9 month female dog goes through my stuff when i've gone to work, im only out for maybe 3-4 hours tops, and i let her free around the house...

i close most doors, so that she doesn't go into the rooms, but she's been going through some of my things, on tables, chairs etc.

i've videoed her, and she does it RIGHT AFTER we leave for work, no hesitation.

Is this a sign of separation anxiety, i know some dogs bark, some dogs chew, she just goes picks at our stuff, and destroys SOME stuff.

sometimes, she doesn't , but most times, she does.

I'm starting to teach her tables are off limits... but the problem is that she doesn't do it when we are around, never! Only when we are gone, she destroys paper, pens and other random things on a table - mind you, she has to really reach for the table!

please help! thanks!

ps. I've tried punishing her, saying no, but i think it's too late, cuz there is a 3-4 hour gap between when she does it, and wen i tell her off!

thanks

I only visit home on holidays and longer vacations. When I get there, it is almost my dog and I have never seperated and we go on about our lives as normal. However, the day before I go back to school, I find that I have to tell her that I am leaving and spend extra time with her. When I leave, there will be a period of the dog having depression. I feel so bad about it.

Sometimes when I'm playing with my 1yo JRT/Westie mix, either inside the house or outside in the yard, she will break out into these flat out running jags. It's as though she's suddenly possessed, and she runs with the fury of a thousand rabid reindeers! She tucks her back hips low and flies like the wind along an imaginary path that she repeats over and over until she's completely exhausted and MUST stop for water.

Do I need to enroll her in agility classes? What switch gets flipped in her head that just makes her take off for no apparent reason. It's entertaining, but I want to know WHY.

Any ideas?

I just got a puppy a week ago, he is 8 weeks old and he is a major biter and keeps having accidents in the house. I have tried giving him spankings when he does both, but he seems to do them more now. He is actually biting harder and going to the bathroom more in the house. I don't know how else to teach him, so if you have any advice, please tell me. Thanks in advance.

They make me so sad. How does this happy? Is it a progression? Is it genuine love and devotion, or a personality disorder?

My dog is 7 years old. I got her at 4 months, she had obviously been abused. I have given her so much love and tried to give her a good life, but she always looks sad, except when we are playing or she is getting a treat.

Do you think she is really sad or is it just the way her face looks? She is a wonderful sweet dog with plenty of spunk and I love her so much i just wish i knew if she was happy.

This is the first Christmas we'll be celebrating with our newly adopted dogs (Chi & Westie). Traditionally I have always purchased a 6" fresh Noble Fir, but since adopting the girls I've read (and unfortunately had experience) with the toxins of pine trees (the Westie took a bite out of a freshly fallen green pine cone - the vet loves me).

Are Christmas trees toxic? Could their fallen needles be toxic? Should I skip the tree altogether because they're just going to want to eat my Great Grandmother's handmade ornaments anyway?

I'd love to have a tree, but not at the expense of my dogs. Any suggestions?

I know I am completely asking for it here but....Ok my dog is acting really weird. He has a bed of blankets on the floor and he always loves to lay there. Well sometimes he gets up and starts pawing at the blankets, flippin them everywhere! Its like hes digging a hole or something? After he paws and digs at the blankets and has them totally messed up, he flops back down on them and then gets up, turns around and flops down again...Hes just layin on the blankets then terrorizes them then lays back down....is he trying to tell me something or what? I wash them a lot so its not like they are nasty or anything, what the heck is he doing??

My outside dog eats and chews on EVERYTHING, no matter what it is. Does anyone know of a way to keep him from eating the x-mas lights, because I would really like to put them down the sidewalk. He's a weininnieer (breed) if that matters.

I am planning to try to get my dog certified so I can take her on assisted pet therapy visits to Hospitals, nursing homes, etc...
Any advice on brushing up her basic obedience, sit, lay down, stay and walk on leash... She does quite well on all, just want to have it down really good for when they do the evaluation on my girl.
Thanks.

Okay, dog gas is NASTY! My Chi likes to curl up on my chest when I'm on the laptop, and my Westie snuggles right beside me.

One of them had the most foul odor this evening. Each likes to partake of the cat kibble if we don't pick it up quick enough (the Chi more so than the Westie).

Here's the question -- is one breed more than any other prone to gas issues? Could the cat kibble be contributing to the dog's methane output? What's in the cat kibble that reacts so horribly in the K9's bellies?

Both dogs eat Artemis Fresh Mix Small Breed Adult dry kibble exclusively (unless they're eating the cats Artemis Feline kibble). We do not give table scraps at ALL.

Appreciate your knowledge of all things gassy. I think I need a bath.. peeeeewwwww!

She adopted a puppy same time we did they are brother and sister ours is training real good. Her's is a (female) pee's everywhere. She has tile and carpet upstairs and no matter how she mops and what she uses it smell awful, she is so upset. What can she do for odors. She works all day and attends collage at night and puppy sleeps in travel cage but has excess to newspaper and food and water but often will pee where there is no newspaper. Her puppy is a 4 month old Pikinese.
