I think it's best to wait tell you get the puppy then name him or her whatever name he/she comes to first. Let the puppy decide what there name should be.

a name will come to you once you see your puppy. You don't need to name him or her right the day you get her. To help you with this question it would be helpful to know the sex and the kind of breed of dog you are getting.
Naming a puppy is as much fun as naming your first child. you can do a web search in yahoo for dog names and will get a huge bunch of sites that will help you name your new baby.
My pets were named Baa boo my show Rottweiler Drank anti freeze on a drilling rig site and passed away
Muffin my Pom that lived 21 years.
Griselda or Zelda for short - Chinese pug that my sister ran over.
and now meeko my Yorkie.

How about naming your pup after a spice or a herb? Some of them could be easily abbreviated into something easy to call out -
EG:
Coriander, Cayenne, Paprika, Parsley, Saffron, Anniseed, Fennel, Borage, Basil, Carraway, Cinnamon, Chervil, Tarragon, Verbena etc.
Loads more listed here:

I named my horse Wish because he was my wish come true. I only know of one other pet (dog) named that so it is not common and can be used for either sex.
