Bullmastiff
They are very relaxed and would be fine as an indoor dog or outdoor. They only bark when there is a reason to do so. I am speaking from experience. I have a bullmastiff, and he likes to lay around and get his belly scratched. He doesn't jump up on people, he doesn't he doesn't run around the house acting crazy and he doesn't require much exercise. Whenever he's outside (most of the time) I can rest assured that if I hear him barking, that something is definitely going on.
hope this helps

Stupid question.
You need to check your local rescues and shelters and find the quiet ones. Volunteers should be able to help you find the ones they know are not excessive barkers. I have a litter of white German shepherds that are all the same but a couple of them constantly yip and whine. Just because some one thinks they are quiet doesn't make any certain breed an exception.
Basenji is known to rarely bark but then you may find you prefer a dog that you won't find on top of your refrigerator. Recues can tell you more about their dogs and help make sure it is what you need. I would certainly be sure not to think about a puppy. Even though it may be quiet when young its personality doesn't really come out till about 6-8 months

Let me correct the people that said basenjis dont bark...... Basenjis yodel but they do occasionally bark when scared. I know this because I have two of them. They are not quiet little dogs either. I could tie my basenji "sparky" out side for five mins and he sounds like some one is dying a horrible painful death. Not a very pleasant sound either. Really no dog is quiet. I'm sorry to say, but the basenjis are really cool little dogs.

The Basenji is known as the barkless dog, make a sound more like yodeling (Slim Whitman's choice!) Dogs bark for a reason though and to limit your dog's communication only to what is acceptable to you may take away their ability to do their "job" like protect you and your home. Incessant barking can be modified but it's really what makes dogs so great.
Just imagine if cats barked. oyvay!

Basenjis wouldn't have the identical vocal cords as different breeds, so they don't bark. They do howl slightly, but provided that they get motivated means an excessive amount of without delay. They're rather small however without problems desire a just right stroll everyday.

Basenjis don't have a similar vocal cords as different breeds, so they do no longer bark. They do howl somewhat, yet provided that they get inspired way too plenty at as quickly as. they are particularly small yet merely desire a solid walk every day.
