She will eat when I hand feed her dry food and will eat human left-overs out of her bowl but won't eat her own food. And yes I have tried various things like moving the bowl and changing the bowl/plate. I have even left her for 3 days thinking she will get hungry enough to eat on her own but nooo luck! I am taking her to the vet tomorrow because she has lost weight but after my phone call tonight, the vet didn't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

The half/ half sounds like an idea, I'll try that 2morrow. The way I got her to eat tonight was to sit next to her on the floor and hold her back legs to stop her from backing away and she ate!! By the way I live in Australia.

Thank you "Toast" but there was never an overeating issue!! She is around 13 years of age and has always been healthy, I have also mentioned the weight loss so definately NO overeating!! Sensible answers only would be appreciated please.

Yes Sweetiepie, I tried diferent dog food types but she always seems to know when it's dog food! I work 12 hour night shifts and find it hard to always cook for myself let alone trying to cook for her. She ate the meat loaf tonight but as I said I had to stop her from going anywhere to eat it. She cowards away from the bowl like there is poison in it!!

My dog was like this too, as I have always spoiled her rotten. Finally the only way I could get her to eat her food was to mix "people" food in with it. About half people food & half dog food usually works.

My dog will eat dog food from his bowl, but only if I hand-feed it to him. this started when we brought in the female, and she tried to take his bowl. Even if I feed them in the cages, even if I sit between them... he won't touch his bowl... :(

The more you post the more it really sounds like T-Bone's behavior... are you sure she didn't come into contact with a "dominent personality" dog while eating?

Did you try switching the dog food to see if she will eat something else. When I had my dog I had to switch the type of food I gave her her becasue she refuesed to eat certain kinds. Sometimes animals like to eat with their owners. Mine did, thats the only time she really ate when I was at home to eat with her.

Have you tried putting food in her bowl and letting her try it? I put mozzarella cheese in my dogs food bowl, along with dog food, and he polishes everything, even licking the bowl for remainders.
