I have a beautiful tortoise shell calico. I was brushing her tonight and noticed she had a lot of flea dirt. I thought it was odd since, as far as I knew, she didn't have fleas. I combed more and more and found more and more. Finally I started combing her hair apart to check if she did have fleas and saw one move. I parted some more hair just to make sure and I found another one, or could have been the same one I don't know. A couple years ago we had fleas pretty bad on all our animals. At the time it was 4 cats, 2 ferrets and 2 dogs and our main concern was the ferrets since they can die from anemia from flea bites. We used some flea spray for the vet and it really helped. There were no more fleas on the ferrets and we didn't find any on the cats either. Last night was the first time I have seen one since that time. Two of my cats are much easier to check because they are lighter colored so you can see fleas move through the fur. None of them have shown signs of extra itchiness.

My boyfriend and I want to adopt a Savannah. He thinks they're manly and i think they're cute (perfect combination!). Instead of paying for a kitten I would like to adopt one who needs a good home, however I cannot find a "shelter". Any information would be great! I have always believed in adopting and want to continue but it seems to be impossible. Any suggestions about other "large" cat options?

OK my cat is a domestic longhair tortie. I got her from a shelter around christmas last year. She is about 4 or 5 years old, she is healthy besides having runny eyes from upper resperatory problems from being in a shelter her whole life.

I was petting her today and found a mole on her back close to her tail. I rubbed it to see if it hurt her and she started opening and closing her mouth and licking her lips and her back shivered. I stopped rubbing it and she stopped. Then I rubbed it again and she did the mouth and back things again.

The mole is skin color and is small about the size of half a pea. It doesnt show any signs of hurting her and doesnt interfere with brushing. Any ideas of whats up?

I bought cat food from Petco and it was expired!! im very concerned because my kiten is 4 months old and hes very sensitive because hes a pure breed. i checked his litter and his poop was thin =-( called the coperate office of petco-filed a complain--called petco--they said its not a big deal--we check all the food on the shlef that mustve been the only one expired (where as at the time when i went to buy it that was the only bag remaining, i called the same day--couple of hours later) so according to them it came like that from the company--called the company, they were quite apologetic whereas they shouldnt have been because it wasnt there fault. .i wanna take my cat to the vet and i wanna make petco pay. is that possible? and should i worry about all this???

Our little cat has repeatedly fractured his toe playing around the house. He's done it 3 times and we don't know what he is doing to fracture it. We just see him limping by all of a sudden. This time, it seems to be aggitating him a little more than the other 2 times, making me think it isn't his toe but something deeper into the paw. Before we take him to the vet, can anything really be done about it? The cat is volutarily keeping his weight off the paw and taking it easy. Nothing else is wrong with him, so is it over-reacting/waste of money to take him to the vet?

I am quite familliar with what a female cat is like in heat, however my kitten has been acting a little differently lately and I am just wondering if she could be going into heat soon.

She's approximately 4 and a half months old, and is a generally affectionate little girl. However, for the past few days, she has been especially affectionate. She is constantly wanting to cuddle, giving kisses (she licks my nose when she's happy), and nuzzling my face. She has also been 'calling' me a little more often than usual. She will usually meow to me if she hasn't been able to find me for a while or wants something, but she has done it a couple times today for apparently no reason.

I am unsure what to think of the personality change. She is VERY affectionate when she is tired and calm, so it might just be because she is 'settling down' and isn't so hyper all the time. Or she could be jealous of my other kitten. Or it could be the beggings of heat.

Any ideas what would cause the change?

So I decided to get a friend for my male kitten. He is about the same age and the people we got him from said that they had just given him a flea bath and we didn't see on him so we decided to take him. Now I just found a flea on my first kitten who has never had them. We had gotten flea medication from the vet when we first took him but never put it on so we just split it up between the two cats. Was this a good Idea? Will it kill them? How do I get them out of my apartment??? We have flea killing carpet powder will this do the job? Please help I can't have an infestation!!

There was a stray cat under my house who had kittens, they've all moved out, I've blocked all access holes and I have fleas in my house now. I am going to get a bomb. Should I do it in my house, or under my house!? Will it have the same effect if I do it under the house!? If I do it in the house do I need to cover furniture and everything!?

George, my six-month-old male kitten, has been acting strange for a few days now. He is normally very sweet and loving; always wants to cuddle and be petted (to the point that it's almost annoying if he weren't so cute...) For the past three or four days, though, he's been really moody...edgy, jumpy, kind of startled when I go to pet him, doesn't want to snuggle or be held like usual. I don't know what his deal is, but I'm worried because he never usually acts like this. He doesn't really act sick...he doesn't seem to be in pain, he's still playful and energetic, just really wired and jumpy.

I'm taking him to the vet next week to get neutered (his littermate, my other cat, is getting spayed that day as well). I don't know - could this be a "puberty" thing? I have noticed him licking himself "down there" a lot more often lately...he seems kind of fixated on it, actually. I don't know if that's significant or not...

So, any ideas as to what's going on with little George?? Thanks!

I came home to find out my cat had given birth. The kittens were scattered around the house so I put them in a box next to her, but she took them in her mouth and now they're under the couch. I fear that somebody might harm her or the kittens since the couch is a place in which there is someone almost always. Also I want them to be somewhere where their waste is away from us and any common areas and that is easy to clean. There aren't many places around the house where I could put her and since the neighborhood is full ot cats with no owners that are constantly entering the house to eat and I fear that they might do something to the kittens or her, since she is very little.

She did it yesterday before I went to school. It looked like she was at first. When I picked her up, her stomach felt a little weird. So I immediately put her in her litter box but she hopped out and vomited on the floor instead. She isn't doing it anymore though today. What do you think caused this?

Well here's a little detail. We hold her every once and a while. She doesn't eat too much. She just eats when she's hungry. Also we usually get her Friskie's that has the carnation milk with it. We went to the store several days ago, but they didn't have any, so we had to get her Deli-Cat.

Here's a picture of her, just to let you see what she looks like. :)

I know she's fine, but I just wanna know what you think caused this.

I have 2 little kittens. I got them yesturday. They just came up to my front porch. They stayed yesturday and last night. I wanted to keep them...now they are gone today. Do you think they'll come back? I put some canned cat food out and some milk. They've been gone since about 12 this afternoon.

They're only a few weeks maybe months old.

I rescued a cat, and no rescue groups are willing to help me (they are overcrowded). ANyway the cat will be spayed on Oct 30. She just had her vaccines as well. All that from my own pocket. I don't want to keep her. I already have 2 cats.
But I want to get her adopted to a good home (she is a sweetie and she deserves the best). So the vet will help me (flyers) and I will probably post an ad on petfinder, make a movie as well....
I will ask for $80 or $100 as adoption fee (to cover the vaccines and some of the spaying cost) also to eliminate non serious people.

But how do I know the people who will adopt her are good people?

PLEASE rescue people, give me some tips! how do you screen the people before they adopt your cats?
serious answers only.

Also she will be ready for adoption after Oct 30 (spaying) and I will probably wait until Halloween is over.

As you all know my cat (neighbors cat) cannot come inside (although I let her in every once in a while) so I thought, for these next few days which are going to be cold until the weather warms up on Sunday, why not place a pillow case in the dryer and once it's warm, put it on her to warm her up for a bit? What do you guys think?

I have two dogs and a trainer told me that when they are agressive toward you, shove them to the ground to show that you're dominant. I have two dogs and this works well with them. However, I have a cat as well. She's a very sweet cat and she never acts agressive toward me...but today she did something strange. I was holding her, and she started hissing and clawing at me! I put her down and my sweet little husky came over to see what was wrong, and she started clawing and hissing at her too! She even ripped out a good bit of the poor thing's fur!
My cat has never done this before (toward the dogs, yes, but not to me!) so when she did it to me, I didn't know what to do!

Yesterday I noticed my cat was having trouble walking and she wasn't eating. I tried everything to get her to eat a little but didn't have any luck. I took her to the vet last night and she gave me some liquid medicine which seems to be working. She can walk again but still ignores all food and water. I got her some kitten formula and I've been giving it to her with the syringe I got with the medicine. I've been able to get her to eat 2 tsp of kitten formula and 1 tsp of water today. The syringe measure up to 1/2 tsp. I'm trying to take it slow with her feedings, but how much should I try to get into her in a day? The formula label says 2 tbsp a day for a full grown cat but I'm not sure I can get her to eat that much. I don't know how much she weighs. The vet said if she doesn't eat every day her liver could shut down and I want to keep her hydrated. My cat might not have much longer to live, the vet said it might be a brain tumor or FIP. We're taking her back to the vet tonight.
