i was in your shoes a few months ago. i used frontline and it didn't work. that was a lot of money. then i bought raid flea foggers and advantage for my cat when i did both of them together, it worked. the advantage will kill fleas that hatch and jump on your cat within 2 hours. fleas do not lay their eggs on the pet but in the pet's environment. that is why it's important to treat both. shampoo kills fleas temporarily but doesn't leave a residue that continues to kill. if you use the foggers then retreat your home in 2 wks if you see new fleas. then use the raid flea spray as a follow-up on drapery and upholstery as needed. i too have hardwood floors and i would have thought that would have made it easier to get rid of. i am convinced if i would have started with the advantage, i could have had the problem under control within 2 wks instead of 2 months. my poor cat suffers from feline acne and has a terrible reaction to fleas so i was furious with frontline who only offered the excuse that the product was working but the fleas had to bite my cat to get the stuff into their system and then it didn't kill them it just kept them from reproducing. advantage and revolution for me have worked and at least kill the fleas which will also keep them from reproducing. genius huh?

I don't recommend flea bombs - anything from a pet store is not likely to work.
What gel exactly? Do you mean a spot-on? There are many different kinds! Again, if from a store, not likely to work. Go to a vets to get a proper spot-on - and don't bath 48 hours before applying or the stuff won't work, you will have washed the natural oils of the skin and Frontline and the like need these to work. Flea shampoos are not good, don't bother.
I suggest you pick up a decent house spray while you're at the vets.

When you say "the gel between the shoulders" do you mean Advantage for cats? If you purchased Hartz or another brand at Wal-Mart it may not work as well! Advantage for cats is about the best on the market, but is only available through your veterinarian. Bombing the house is a good idea, however you will have to remove yourself and the cat for a couple of hours!

Hi,Flea bombs do work because I used "Bob Martins Flea Bombs" (one for each room) 4 months ago and they got rid of them completely !!!!!!!!The best Flea treatment to use on your cat is Frontline.I have used this for 4 months now and my kitten has not had a single flea on him,you can buy it over the counter from any vets.Good luck.

Sad to say, it sounds like it's bomb time. I hate those, but I've had similar experiences, and that was the only thing that worked.
Make sure to also get some kind of spray product to hit the areas the bomb will miss, like under chairs and near the walls. You will probably need to redo washing the bedding, etc to seal the deal.
Be sure all pilot lights and other flames are out before bombing!

Groom your pet more often. This seems to irritate the fleas. They'll all start to hop up. Then you can catch them.
Once you see the fleas it's best to catch them with tape.
If your pet develops a rash or any other type of allergic reaction, and is still scratching after about two weeks, call your veterinarian.

I have never used flea bombs. We had the same problem, we tried tons of things. Once we used ivory dish soap on our dog, they were gone in a day or 2. So we just continued using it and never had the problem again.

that's alot of chemicals in your home and not so safe for you or your pets. ask the vet what you should do and confirm that you are really dealing with fleas.
