My boyfriend and I want to adopt a Savannah. He thinks they're manly and i think they're cute (perfect combination!). Instead of paying for a kitten I would like to adopt one who needs a good home, however I cannot find a "shelter". Any information would be great! I have always believed in adopting and want to continue but it seems to be impossible. Any suggestions about other "large" cat options?

Since the Savannah is a relatively new breed, I doubt you will find one in a shelter. I would suggest you attend a TICA cat show in your area to find a breeder that would be willing to work with you to make sure this is the breed for you. I have only seen a few at one show and they do look exotic, but that doesn't necessarily mean one will make a good pet for you and your boyfriend. I used to raise Abyssinians and I required anyone who had not previously owned an Aby to come for a visit of at least a couple of hours. That gave the perspective owner a chance to see Abys in action and some people prefer a less active cat.
I would want to know the personality of both parents before I took a "wild-cross" cat into my home. If you are just looking for a large cat, go to your local shelter and see what they have. If you want a registered cat, a cat show is a good place to check out the various breeds.
P.S. the above mentioned website is a good one. purrs
